Art

The completed work of an artist which is the expression of creativity or imagination, or both that portrays a mood, feeling or tells a story; works of art collectively.
====================================
entering my art journal page in:

Simon Says Monday Challenge - This is where the cowboy rides away

OK, so the prompt made me think of campfires out in the prairie under star filled nights...which then morphed into a more "citified" oil lantern with moths fluttering around it ...

The background was made using a paint etching technique. The first layer are random colors of Ranger Distress Paints which I then covered with a thick layer of an acrylic/glaze mixture and then scratched through while the paint was still wet. A shot of Maya Roads whiteout was spritzed over the top and then it was sealed with Helmar Crystal KOTE Gloss Varnish.

Loved creating the lamp as my centerpiece, cut from the Cricut Country Life cartridge, p. 64 and then shadow outlined with my pens and outlined the glass globe with stickles. The flame was created by free hand drawing it onto the vellum and then coloring it in with Sakura Glaze pens and the white Sharpie.

The butterflies began their life has very pretty dimensional butterflies from K&Co. but moths aren't that pretty to me, plus the pink and blue colors wouldn't work either. So, I did what any self respecting mixed media artist would do...I tore them apart and inked and grunged them up! I even added a layer of Ranger Distress Crackle Paint over them!

Kakorrhaphiophobia: noun

An abnormal fear of failure.

I hope you enjoyed this months phobia words :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I'm taking a course called Draw Your Awesome Life by Joanne Sharpe and the first thing I learned is....it's good to have a nice artist eraser! lol I haven't water colored in years so I admit to doing quite a bit of erasing, especially on the page on the left. Heck, I had so many problems with it, I actually gessoed over a third of it, and then learned that pencil marks do not erase well at all on top of gesso.
My first thought...are they ready? lol I'm a little fun loving and kooky ( ::gasp::...I know, right? ) and this is a new group who does not know me.
There is only one person I know so I am wondering...
should I behave? ...
probably, for awhile anyway! lol
Who would have thought that steam would be so hard to do? Not me, but this was the second attempt
( after gessoing the page over)...I went for whimsical art colored steam this time. lol
Then I was real disappointed that Snoopy looks like he has a pink mustache! lol Oh well, the best laid plans sometimes go awry! But I have had this Snoopy mug since I was in college, which is like 30+ years ago and I really wanted it in there. Stubborn, aren't I? Go ahead, it's OK to nod your head yes!
If you check out the post from the day before, that's when I broke in ( literally ) my Faber Castell water  color crayons. I have fallen in love with them...( notice what I wrote on the yellow one? ) I can either draw directly on the page with them, or rub my wet paintbrush against them and use them in a more traditional way!! BONUS!

also used:
Pens - Sakura, Sharpie, Reminisce

Happy Halloween!

Winner for the Mixed Media Kit will be announced later today, please come back to see the video announcing the winner :)

Paper Playtime - Red, Yellow, Blue

Ch# 20 Yellow, Red, and Blue
Begins: Monday, Sept 30
Ends: Sunday, Oct 13
Prize: $10 Gift Certificate
I freely admit that I struggled with this color combination at first. But I grew to love it as I played around with it. Do you ever have certain colors that you have issues with? For me, it is the color yellow, I rarely use it on anything, but maybe I should rethink that, huh?

(OK, here is my confession about the stamped image!! ) HA!
Helmar Acid Free glue
Echo Park - pattern paper
Wilton - doily
Sharpie
Cricut - Don Juan cartridge, p. 57

Paper Smooches May 13-19 Designer Drafts challenge

As you can I took the version on the right and instead of banners I used 3 fish with bubbles going up instead of the straight line. On the right side of my card, I took 2 colors of blue paint and coated my bubble wrap and pressed it down. After it was dry I ran it through the printer using the free digi stamp for the sentiment. Love the bright yellow bow against the turquoise paper.

Love the bright colored fishes!

Love to Scrap! - Anything Goes
Eddyth Sue ( from our Mixed Media Monday group ) has issued a small challenge of her own!
"For Monday, May 6, 2013 my challenge for "Sandee Setliff" and anyone else is......pick your favorite piece of work that Tracy has done, whether it's a canvas, journal page, etc. and make a page/canvas/coaster with your take on it! Oh, and post a pic of her work and yours."
Noticed how she picked me out? hmmmm?
Well, not to disappoint anyone, and I am always up for a challenge!
So I picked this canvas piece from Tracy's work:
I love that field of colorful flowers and since it fits the garden theme with Mou's challenge, it was an easy choice. Here is my little garden card:

My background is a wash of gelatos, the flower outlines are stamped and then colored in with more gelatos. I tried using the pastel pencil to outline the "canvas" but it didn't go over the gelato layer very well, so I used pens instead.

Faber Castell:
gelatos- metallic grape,blueberry,mint,melon and gold
pastel pencil
yellow Aquarelle pencil

other:
Stazon ink
American Crafts - flowers
gems - misc
Ranger - stickles
Close to my Heart - bee stamp
Studio G - flower stamp
Sharpie - for outlining and doodling

Oh, and for all you stickle addicts
( yes, I am one of them ) I found a new challenge site JUST for them! lol ...in heaven...just sayin'...♥
All that Stickles -Icicle Linky Party ( used on the bee's wings, and in the center of the stamped flowers )

of, relating to, or being the British universities founded in the 19th or early 20th century
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
( Currently it's raining and I sure could use some galoshes/wellies to get out and about today. I thought I'd carry the theme of showers even farther along by using a Rainy Day sentiment. )
Card Makin' Mamas - No Pattern Paper
( second entry )
Inkspirational - Challenge #14 Color Inkspiration -  pink, banana, and slate
( Was not sure if slate was grey or blue, but it seems the DT projects used blue, at least that's what if looked like on my computer screen. I didn't have a slate blue ink so I used Broken China. )
Technique Time Tuesday - Water Stamping
( OK, so my stamping techniques really stink, hence why I try to learn new things. This one really bombed for me, lol Here is a picture of the rain boot after stamping with my Hero Arts background stamp following the steps...I just need to practice more. But I HAD to try it, I mean water stamping and a Rainy Day card just went hand in hand. )

Since you could not make out the flowers from the stamps; I glued some on where they were suppose to be and added a pink rhinestone to the center of each.
I altered the Prima rose by removing the rose core and added a matching rhinestone to it.

Cricut - Paisley cartridge, p. 49 ( taken to the CCR to stretch the boot to fit the envelope )
Prima - large flower, leaf
My Mind's Eye - rhinestones

downer: noun ( slang )

One that depresses, such as an experience or person.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This candy card just had me singing the Dolly Parton song "Hard Candy Christmas", which is one of my favorite songs for getting over any ex-man in your life, especially during a bout of the holiday blues. I'm not sure if it will sell in the store, considering it's a "downer", but my mind kept going to the song, so I had to 'play' it so to speak. I love this video of Dolly singing with still shots of Marilyn Monroe. Enjoy :)

My card was created by cutting a 5.25" circle from the Paper Trimmings cartridge, then I used a peppermint clip art to help guide my red and white swirls. ( great way to get around the math of making this come out even ) I then colored the red in with a Sharpie first, so that I would have a nice deep red after applying the stickles over it. I used Ranger's Xmas Red and Diamond to cover the peppermint, making it a very blingy piece of candy!

Entering my card into:

Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge #43 - Candy
Die Cuttin Divas Challenge #88- Shimmer, Glitter, Gloss

ho: noun

slang: a derogatory term for a woman
( lady of the night, street walker....oh enough already..a whore!! )
lol
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone out in WOYWW land of messy desks and creative minds! How are you doing today? I hope all is well and that you have time to stop and chat a bit with me. I was MIA last Wednesday, it's the first time since I began WOYWW that I missed a day...better than my school record; I must say! ::patting self on back::...hee hee

I can't show you a picture of my desk because it has some Christmas Cards on it that I am making for a group swap, but I will share a picture of some Pitt Pen love which is laying on my desk....I keep all my pens and markers in baggies. I know that may sound weird but I have an obession with them. I have Slick Writers, Renee Lingren Markers, Glitter Gems and StarLightz ( together because they are glitter related ), Sakura Glaze pens, Galaxy Markers, Gelly Roll Metallics and EK Metallic collection ( also together since they are metallics ) and I also have a drawer for my random collection of pens: Copics, Reminisce, Uniball, and Close to my Heart, and lastly, a box on the shelf contains Sharpies and DecoColor Paint pens. Wow, that's 15 different kinds of pens/markers that all have their unique usage!!
Are you a pen/marker ho? Evidently I am, lol
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, since I touched on a Christmas card swap....would anyone be interested in exchanging handmade Christmas cards with me? I would love a WOYWW swap with all my buddies. If you're interested, please e-mail me at sandeesetliff@yahoo.com, put WOYWW x-mas card swap in the subject line so I don't delete you!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I would also love to share my new business cards that I made. The obvious part is the palette shape with the information about where to find my "stuff". But the best part are the colors and the dates.

Now let me explain why...:) The colors with the days of the week have an importance! ( nothing to do with my art, are you confused? ) The explanation is simple, really it is! I am shy when it comes to promoting  the "sales" part of my business, so the colors/days of the week are important as it is a conversation starter for me. You see, those colors/days of the week represent the twisty ties on a loaf of bread which let's you know how fresh the bread is!( found on Pinterest ) In other words, something for me to talk about that's not pushing the sales of my art. I've been able to hand out cards to bank tellers, Office Max people ( who bless their hearts, let me fondle the different weights for paper to print my cards onto, lol ) and to complete strangers at the bread isle.
Now, if they happen to ask me about 'Sandee's cards and signs' then I can tell them all about my "stuff". If they don't, well, hopefully they might check it out. Regardless, I am hopeful that this is the kind of business card that won't get thrown away, or dumped into a larger pile of junk in a drawer, but will be pulled out and used as a reference, maybe even shared with a friend!( and yes, some of you may notice that there isn't enough room for "Artful Words", unless I drop down the thumb hole, which I plan on doing later )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Sorry for the long post, I guess missing out last week made me feel all wordy and such, just so much to share with you all!
::::group hug:::::
...now go on...visit the others, tell them I said hi!
