Pretties

Using the plural noun pretties to refer to dainty things goes back at least to the 1700s.
Some early uses refer to toys and jewelry, but the word was also applied to women's lingerie.
By all rights it should be a lovely word, but because of its association with the Wicked Witch of the West ("I'll get you, my pretty!"), using it at a lingerie store today might sound a bit creepy.

Kakorrhaphiophobia: noun

An abnormal fear of failure.

I hope you enjoyed this months phobia words :)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I'm taking a course called Draw Your Awesome Life by Joanne Sharpe and the first thing I learned is....it's good to have a nice artist eraser! lol I haven't water colored in years so I admit to doing quite a bit of erasing, especially on the page on the left. Heck, I had so many problems with it, I actually gessoed over a third of it, and then learned that pencil marks do not erase well at all on top of gesso.
My first thought...are they ready? lol I'm a little fun loving and kooky ( ::gasp::...I know, right? ) and this is a new group who does not know me.
There is only one person I know so I am wondering...
should I behave? ...
probably, for awhile anyway! lol
Who would have thought that steam would be so hard to do? Not me, but this was the second attempt
( after gessoing the page over)...I went for whimsical art colored steam this time. lol
Then I was real disappointed that Snoopy looks like he has a pink mustache! lol Oh well, the best laid plans sometimes go awry! But I have had this Snoopy mug since I was in college, which is like 30+ years ago and I really wanted it in there. Stubborn, aren't I? Go ahead, it's OK to nod your head yes!
If you check out the post from the day before, that's when I broke in ( literally ) my Faber Castell water  color crayons. I have fallen in love with them...( notice what I wrote on the yellow one? ) I can either draw directly on the page with them, or rub my wet paintbrush against them and use them in a more traditional way!! Paper Playtime - google eyes

I love googlie eyes, they just make me smile and can deliver even the snarkiest statements in a friendly and fun way, like this birthday tag saying, "you're how old? "...lol

I used my paper which had a cute little monster to create a balloon shape and added the goggle eyes to it and some twine for a bow.

I filled in the negative space with glossy accents after filling in the centers of the A's....( not sure what this says about me, but I don't deal with negative space very well, I guess I want happy space )....::eye roll::

Sundays with Sandee

Hi everyone, here is my very first art journal page using the awesome Dylusions Journal.

I am finally taking some "me time" and just making pages for me to enjoy and not sell. If you want to see what I make and sell you can click on the tab at the top of my blog where it says "Mixed Media signs at the Art MoB"....but this....this is for me! As a matter of fact, if you look through my signs you will find one that is similar to this journal page, it was one that I would have liked to have kept for myself!

I thought this quote, which is one of my favorites would fit the theme of the journal.
I added this to the front chipboard piece, it's the inside cover, when you open up the journal.
( I'll wait until the journal is completed before working on the outside cover.

Here is the foam brush that I show you in the video over at Frosted Designs, if you want to watch it, then please follow this link.

Here are the scissors, pencil and brushes that I made using the exact same technique.
I enjoy adding inspirational words to the tools.

I used an eclectic lettering mix; of stickers, handwriting and cut by my Cricut.
( big hint: do NOT use coconut oil on your hands and then touch your work, because the Sakura glaze pens will not stick!! Hence the wobbly looking "great"...lol  rolling eyes at myself, this is what I get for being a touchy/feely person when it comes to my art...)

I hope you take this "journey" with me and we can share our journal pages on the Frosted Designs Facebook page!

Hypnophobia: noun

The morbid fear of sleep.
( This would have to be a hard one to have! )
( For all my new followers, I occasionally like to learn new words, and this month, being that it is Halloween month,
I am working on phobias....yes, I'm weird like that!! )
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Seems like an explosion of Prayer Journals lately, doesn't it? But they are selling well at the Art MoB so I am having to restock my supply of them. On this one, I tried to focus on creative writing, something I struggle with, so I am taking my first online class from Whimspirations to hopefully free me up a tad more and learn some new styles. I am so glad I joined Bubblews, which paid for the class. (Thank you!!) If you want to earn a little extra cash ( you won't be able to retire on the income, lol ) each month, I highly recommend it! It's fun, easy and they pay you!

The rub on was so old that I struggled to get it to transfer and had a couple of gaps that I filled in with my marker, and happy to say, you can't tell :)

Deco Arts ~ Gelli plate with stencils

For my Deco Arts post today, I wanted to play around with some different kinds of paints on my Gelli Plate, and I now have a new love, its the Satin Enamel paint and it is a hard, durable paint that flows and levels out to a smooth finish. It is awesome and I LOVE it, you don't have to use much at all, a little bit goes a long way on the gelli.

I also played around with the Black Frost paint which is a glass paint. Keeping in mind that it is not intended to be used on a Gelli Plate, it did pretty well, and it cleaned off the gelli plate with a little elbow grease, I probably won't use it on the gelli again, but in a pinch it worked out fine. I used it on the chipboard raven too, so you can see the intensity color difference when it is used alone or layered on the gelli.

You can see where I added the 3D Gloss enamel circles by adding the paint to the dot stencil, giving a nice layered and completely translucent effect.

There you have it, different types of paints from the norm being used.
A glass paint and a wood paint, both worked with different degrees of success.
So, overall, a mix of different paints were used other than the standard acrylic paints, with one paint standing out in a big way, which was the Satin Enamel.
I loved it so much I have used it on several other projects:
The mixed media wall plate covers and the frame around my bathroom mirror
( Will be giving my lower cabinet the same treatment as the mirror frame. )

I loved the color palette for October but my mind wanted to use them in a non Halloween projects and I wanted to use my new stencil I made ( inspired by Carolyn Dube ) by drawing an image on cardboard, and then outlining it with puffy paint and heat setting it to rise up. I planned on using it for my gelli plate but it got it's first run as a stamp on paper, and I LOVE how it turned out. This is the stamp I made, it's about 5 x 10".

I rolled on orange paint with a brayer and then stamped the paper with it.
Whatever didn't print I filled in with a paint pen.

I dripped ink sparay inks and made delightful splatters following the October color palette.

First I used a brayer to coat the cover of the journal, ( I didn't want complete coverage, I love the Kraft paper showing through ) next using a stencil with paint, which I then outlined with a pearl paint. The Lord's Prayer was stamped on Kraft paper and then cut out, painted and also outlined with pearl paint.

I think one of my favorite parts on my art journals are the small bull nose clips that I add a cross to. I believe that the small cross embellishment makes a big impact. You might notice a small dot of Helmar 450  Quick Dry Adhesive over the opening of the ring, it helps assure that it won't open and let the cross slide off by accident.

I used netting and some ink stained lace to create a shabby look. The netting is held down with hand stitching and left loose around the edges. I added the candle sticker on top of the pumpkin sticker and added a raffia bow to the candle. One of my favorite things is taking stickers and combining them and embellishing them!

To really keep the sticker secured to the netting I used Helmar's 450 to ensure that it stays right where I want it too!

OK, so I messed up, but sometimes I get too excited about an element and skip a step I had planned to do! :( In this case I meant to run my sky pattern paper through the printer for the sentiment but just got too darn happy over the bear and the balloons and next thing you know they were adhered to the paper!! I really hate it when I do that, but I persevered onward anyway, I simply wasn't going to waste the paper or the time I had put into the making of the bear.

I masked off the "s" in hugs and used the stamped sentiment from the set.

I love to paper piece so I had a lot of fun withe bear. ( As I can attest with the above confession ) He has 3 layers, the original dark brown polka dot, then his lighter dot muzzle and then another layer for the body which I snipped off parts ( the back ear, the tail and the back leg ) so that I could get a little dimension into him. Added some glossy accents to his nose and tied the balloons around him and set him free to fly!

House of Cards - Month 2 Cute & Fun with a sketch

I have learned that I am not keeping a good record of my card sells from the Art MoB! But I do remember that I sold quite a few Halloween cards/tags last year so I think I should stock back up.

cute & fun = easy
I let the stickers do most of the work but I wanted to "spiffy up" the card a little so I added stickles and google eyes. I painted the inside of the BOO letters and then added some stickles to the painted areas. Since the style of the card is cute and fun, this will be perfect for a child. Not too scary!

by and large: adverb

on the whole : in general
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Where do the cards from hell go?
They go into my private bin to be sent to friends, they are cards that for on reason or another cannot be sold. Let's take this one for instance, shall we?

This card has caused me so much trouble right from the beginning. First I really don't make ladybug cards, and it's not because I don't like ladybugs ( I love them ) but I don't like the Cricut images that I have. So I finally decided on one. Now I need female birthday cards and I could NOT find a sentiment I liked for my ladies who buy my cards and it took me like forever to find something I liked.

Not starting this project off well, am I?

Next, the striped paper has a torn edge which I didn't realize until after I was gluing it down. Then, after all was said and done and re-done, I put the yellow background complete with printed sentiment and lady bug, on UPSIDE down and didn't notice until the glue had all but dried. Tore it apart, cussed a little bit, and did it over, but at the last moment scrunched the yellow paper this time inserting it into the photo corners. ....sigh....really?

Even taking a picture of this card turned into a chore. Had the perfect place and then, wham, bright sunlight complete with shadows. Seriously? Even when I got around to editing it I can see little paper dusty thingies on it, you probably can too if you enlarge it. But as for me, by and large, I don't care, I'm just glad it's done!
