Paper Playtime - google eyes

I love googlie eyes, they just make me smile and can deliver even the snarkiest statements in a friendly and fun way, like this birthday tag saying, "you're how old? "...lol

I used my paper which had a cute little monster to create a balloon shape and added the goggle eyes to it and some twine for a bow.

I filled in the negative space with glossy accents after filling in the centers of the A's....( not sure what this says about me, but I don't deal with negative space very well, I guess I want happy space )....::eye roll::

I swear, I think the same letters used on the CASE are the same ones I used. I had these rub-ons like forever and they were not user friendly because they were printed so close together that it was like impossible to cut them apart to use, so in the spirit of Donna Downey, I just took the whole sheet of the blasted things and rubbed them onto the base of my card. Problem solved, now they are gone!

I took my distress ink and rubbed it across the rub-ons, just love the resist it creates, the bird was dipped in the melting pot of UTEE and the chipboard branch was cut free hand and tinted with the same distress ink.

Solstice: noun

Imagine an object, tossed in the air. When it reaches its peak, before coming down, it appears for an instant to stand still.
Now imagine the sun, rising in the sky over the course of the year, reaching its peak around June 22 (in the Northern hemisphere).
That day is the summer solstice, the longest day of the year. It gets its name from the ancient observation that the sun – like the tossed object – has reached the peak of its arc.
Solstice comes from a Latin word that means "sun standing still."

Ketchup: noun

This all-American condiment started out as a spicy, fermented fish sauce in Malaysia.
That version, known as kÄ›chap, made its way first to Europe and then to the New World, where tomatoes eventually became the defining ingredient.
Elsewhere, ketchup retains an earlier identity. Traditional English ketchup, for example, is a pureed seasoning based on mushrooms, unripe walnuts, or oysters.

Simon Says Stamp and Show - A little stamping

A very simple card, letting the paper be my background. The sentiment is made with with 2 different stamp sets. The Happy Birthday is from CARDZ TV and the deer is from Paper Smooches, where I masked off the my and just used the deer.

I stamped the fawn out first, colored it in with distress stains and fussy cut it out, used a charcoal pencil around the edges of the card, smudged with my finger. Sprayed it with a fixative so the charcoal would not mess up the card or the fingers, when the recipient handles it.

Frisbee - noun

 Frisbee - pronunciation
"The story involves 1950s college students playing catch with cake tins and pie pans – sometimes from the Frisbie Pie Company of New England.
There was already a plastic flying disk on the market called the Pluto Platter, and the students nicknamed it Frisbie. When Wham-O bought the rights to that plastic disk in 1957, they respelled the nickname and made it official.
Because Frisbee remains a trademark, the more earthbound generic term is flying disk."

Hi everyone, it's time for the Frosted designs Monday Inspiration girls to give you a last burst of creativity for the new challenge...are you ready? Now they gave us a LO sketch, but frankly after all the scrapping I did for NSB I was totally out of pictures. Can you believe it? So I converted the sketch into a card.

So I am hoping that if I put my card right next to the sketch, then you will see how I adapted it. Not always the easiest thing to do, but it is doable.

The playing cards came from a museum in Charleston, SC and I've had them like forever. They are too flimsy to actually play with and I never knew quite what to do with them. So glad I hoard  save everything! lol See, that reinforces me to not throw anything away!

You know, put a pink glittery balloon on a gift bag and I'd be happy. Nope, it doesn't take a lot for me :) Of course, one that holds a gift card makes me a little happier and this one does slip out of the bag for ease of shopping! :)

I love this background paper, it's a flocked embossed texture that feels so good to run your fingers over.
Added lace to the inside of the bag to emulate tissue paper. I do recommend adding a bit of wax paper into the bag to keep the glue from adhering the bag together. The handle is created the same way from a piece of twine.

The balloon is sitting on a glue dot and I tried to shape the balloon over it to give it a more rounded look. I spread some stickles over the balloon and then outlined with the same color. Filled in with some glossy accents.

Ethereal
Ethereal means not only "celestial" or "heavenly," but also "marked by unusual delicacy or refinement."

When:       Lookups spiked on April 19, 2013.

Why:       NASA released a new photograph of the Horsehead Nebula – an image of gas and space dust that various commentators described as "ethereal."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I have vivid dreams. Usually I can remember a small part of the dream, like the other night I dreamed I found a tiny orange butterfly in my house, and I scooped it up in my hand and as I was walking to the door to release it, muttered to the poor thing that I hoped it was Ok....and it answered me and said "yes".

Now I also believe in dream interpretations as much as I do horoscopes, fun to look at but not basing my life around them...so here are the interpretations of the dream:

To dream of butterflies means happiness and the coming of change in your life. the transformation of something, could be your self or your life style. a new beginning.

Orange denotes hope, friendliness, courtesy, generosity, liveliness, sociability, and an out-going nature. It also represents a stimulation of the senses. You feel alive! You may want to expand your horizons and look into new interests

To dream that animals can talk, represents superior knowledge. Its message is often some form of wisdom. Alternatively, a talking animal denotes your potential to be all that you can be.

Or it could mean I just have butterflies on the brain since I have been playing around A LOT lately with them and it was just my daily life imposing itself into my dreams.

Word quiz :)

What member of the "claudere" family can refer to a monastery or convent?
( answer at bottom of the post )
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My card was deigned around the sketch from:
Inkspirational challenge #17

I began with my background first using a sheet of wax paper that has been inside the bottom of my spray box. To get the background on my card I simply sprayed the surface of the wax paper and then pressed my paper down onto it. I really love this technique!

I then applied the paints to my stamp and then misted it with water to emulate a watercolor effect.
After stamping my flower with Ranger's Distress Paints ( broken china and spiced marmalade ), I used my Fiskar's fingertip knife to cut around one of the flower petals so that I could slide the banner stamped with CARDZTV sentiment under it. I love "sinking" one image behind another, almost as much as I love adding dimension with Helmar's Liquid Scrapdots.

Surreal
when:  Look ups spiked on April 15th, 2013
why: Used in some of the media coverage of the Boston Marathon bombings.
Surreal means "marked by the intense irrational reality of a dream." The same word was frequently looked up after the 9/11 attacks. A relatively new word in English, surreal dates only to the 1930s. It comes from the name of the artistic movement known as surrealism, whose effect was often created "by means of unnatural or irrational juxtapositions and combinations."
