Try it on Tuesday - Fancy Edges

-must see 3 different edges punched or die cut or even fancy scissors

I think this is a fun challenge, to get out those border punches, decorative edged scissors or even to cut a border with your die cutting machine...or maybe tear an edge! Mix and match them and have fun, that's the important part of making anything, isn't it?

I layered all 3 of my edges together with a running stitch along the top piece.

I swear, I think the same letters used on the CASE are the same ones I used. I had these rub-ons like forever and they were not user friendly because they were printed so close together that it was like impossible to cut them apart to use, so in the spirit of Donna Downey, I just took the whole sheet of the blasted things and rubbed them onto the base of my card. Problem solved, now they are gone!

I took my distress ink and rubbed it across the rub-ons, just love the resist it creates, the bird was dipped in the melting pot of UTEE and the chipboard branch was cut free hand and tinted with the same distress ink.

Try it on Tuesday - Collage with a twist: must include some script

I love collaging, there is just something fun about getting all gluey and messy!

I wrote a post called "Box Artist" the other day because I am always humbled and amazed when someone buys them. I never thought of myself as a box "designer" but I now received my first commissioned box so I'm extremely thrilled.

Like most of my boxes, they have tops that are held together by Velcro. I love using the MS doilies because they are actually quite sturdy.

The ribbon on this one is adhered onto the bottom of the box to keep it from slipping. I also didn't have to do anything to the inside of the box except paint it as she is wrapping the gift in tissue paper to put inside it.

Here is an up-close of the collage, I tore book test and a scrapbook paper into sections and glued them on, next a layer of printable butterflies
followed by a layer of tissue paper to soften the effect.

Do you ever have any trouble mixing pattern paper? I use to, didn't like it one bit actually, but in the last couple of years my thinking has been turned around and now I love it. Here, for my little altered box, I mixed 2 different lines of paper.

I have fallen in love with boxes, and evidently so have my customers at the Art MoB because this one has already sold! It is made out of the cardboard spool from Christmas ribbon. The bottom and top rounds were also cut from chipboard and attached.
Almost all my boxes come with velcro closures.
And I paint the insides to match.
I add LSD to keep the wings up and separated so that they won't flatten out, I mean we want the recipient to see all that pretty paper!

Use this color range (orange, navy, light blue, green, and brown)

No scumbling here folks, I love the bright vernal colors from LYB!

Little Bicycle products:
frame, dotted cloud chipboard - Just Because
fox, small blue cloud, sentiment chipboard, pattern paper - Fern & Forest Boy
green paper - Acorn Hollow

OK, it's a shame that you cannot order individual pieces, because I would order the heck out of the little fox, isn't he cute?
I needed a navy color so I "painted" the inside of the photo frame with a distress stain.

other:
Ranger - distress marker, distress stain
Martha Stewart - fringe scissors
Eyelet Outlet - butterfly brad

I did add one other product to the card that wasn't LYB, but gosh, that tiny butterfly is just perfect there, don't you think?

On the right side of my card, I took 2 colors of blue paint and coated my bubble wrap and pressed it down. After it was dry I ran it through the printer using the free digi stamp for the sentiment. Love the bright yellow bow against the turquoise paper.

Hi there everyone, it's time for a new challenge over at...

Corsets,  dresses  etc  but we would also like to see a piece of lace.

I used a photo overlay that I cut to fit the size of my card. Covered up the cut end with lace and trim. I love these overlays, they have glittered flowers, so sweet. It had the word "Sweet" already on it, I just added the "16" with rub ons.

Yummy new flowers and a chipboard butterfly on top of all that girly lace held on all snug and tight with some awesomely strong adhesive!!

Pause Dream Enjoy Challenge #6 Anything Goes
Simon Says Stamp Challenge - Anything Goes

Cricut has been asking for Christmas stuff and one of their requests was for gift card holders. And I got to thinking, why not make Gift Card holders for sale at the Art MoB
I used Cricut's Doodlecharms cartridge, p. 87 for the mail box. Stamped a Rudolph stamp by Walmart
( gasp, lol  I admit it, I shop at Walmart ) on the flag and added a brad by Karen Foster

Next I cut out the envelope which holds the GC, again from Doodlecharms, p. 86 but removed the heart cut on the envelope in the Cricut Craft Room and extended the flap cut by hand so that I could slide the gift card up and under the flap. Stamped the Ho, Ho, Ho by Karen Foster on the flap and added a Martha Stewart poinsettia sticker on the corner to add some balance to the red flag. Outlined everything with a Faber Castell PITT pen.

Although the picture doesn't show it very well, it's actually a card, so the whole 'mailbox with GC' is the front of the card, leaving the person that sends it, a traditional inside to write their greetings.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been asked how well sales have been going over at the Art MoB, and I have to say that I have been very lucky. The sales are definitely tourist driven so we had a couple of slow months during winter and I am still in the learning phase of what sells and trying to keep an open mind to what I can make that interests people.

So here is a recap of just the card sales:

September - 19 cards
October - 26 cards
November - 2 cards
December - 24 cards
January - 28 cards
February - 15 cards

A total of 114 cards sold in the first 6 months.
( female birthday seems to sell the best )

I try and keep 20 cards out at all times in each category, restocking once a week.

'basic cards' which stay up all the time consists of:

Birthday Female
Birthday Male
Thank you

then there are the 'fluctuating cards' which consist of:

current seasonal
upcoming seasonal
speciality cards

So, I have 6 displays with 20 cards in each display, that's 120 cards out for the customer's perusal.
It takes a lot of work to make sure I have a variety of cards but I do think that is important so that the customers have many things to choose from.

I will consider myself successful if I help someone along the way from what I learn. Any questions? Feel free to ask. :) Any suggestions, feel free to offer. ;)

Found a new card challenge blog called Cute Card Thursday, with their challenge

To do something with the corners of your card.
Well, just last night I had discovered an OLD set of photo corners from Lil Davis that I had never used. I was very pleased with how light and delicate their designs were so I set about to use them and had a good time inking them up with  Ranger's Sugar Plum Distress marker dipped in the Barn Door Distress Stain, just loving this technique, it's like increasing my stash without buying anything new!

I rather like it thinking it is a redolent vintage looking card.

He's so cute, I know I'd give him some luvin' ;)

For the background to the hole in the bird house I first laid strips of masking tape down, and covered it with Black Soot..let dry...then Vintage Photo..let dry...then used the gold metallic Gelato which I rubbed and smoothed out the previous 2 stains which had just laid in a bubbly effect on top of the masking tape. Then I added a layer of Rock Candy crackle to give it an old wood look to it.

I tried to add some texture to the owl's body by using my pens in 2 different ways. The ruffled feathers across hi chest were created with wavy lines, and the head and ears were dabs from the pen. His wings, and ears were lifted up by placing the Liquid Scrapdots under them.
The banner is placed on a twig from the backyard, held in place with Tacky Glue. His "extra" wing was colored and cut out and laid on top of the twig using Liquid Scrapdots for extra strength. I printed out the sentiment and used Liquid Scrapdots to lift the end of the sentiment banner.

skin of my teeth: phrase

Narrowly; barely

The phrase first appears in English in the Geneva Bible, 1560, in Job 19:20, which provides a literal translation of the original Hebrew:
"I haue escaped with the skinne of my tethe."
Teeth don't have skin, of course, so the writer may have been alluding to the teeth's surface or simply to a notional minute measure - something that might now be referred to, with less poetic imagery than the biblical version, as 'as small as the hairs on a gnat's bollock' ( testicles )

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Whew, just got the last tag in by the skin of my teeth. I wasn't even sure I would make it, but make it I did! I just couldn't make it the same way TH did though, but I like it none the less.
I didn't make the extra tag, I am all out of Christmas. lol

Poinsettia: noun

Poinsettias, the iconic red-and-green Christmas plants, have the botanical name Euphorbia pulcherrima, meaning "very beautiful." The native Mexican plant grows as a perennial shrub in nature, but is best known in the U.S. as a holiday houseplant. What many people consider the plant's red flowers are really modified leaves, or bracts. The actual flowers are the small yellow cyathia in the center of the red bracts.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's the last week of our Handmaking the Holidays and it's crunch time for everyone to get their gifts wrapped up, which means it's my turn to make sure that everyone is inspired to do some creative gift wrapping! Here are some Pinterest inspired ideas:

How about re-cycling some old sweaters for a cozy wrapping?

Or use up all your odds and ends of ribbons past and create an eclectic wrapping? I personally do this every couple of years, it cleans out the Christmas ribbon stash that way, and you don't need to add a bow either! ( no link provided )

For all the yarn enthusiasts, how about making some big fluffy pom poms?

And for the bakers out there, include a cookie to adorn the tops of your presents! And instead of pine needles, how about a sprig of rosemary or thyme? ( no link provided )

I hope some of these ideas will get you motivated to be a little creative this season!

( I have discovered something I really hate, and that's Pinners who don't provide a link or who do not link a project directly but link the whole blog!! That's so frustrating and such a turn off for me, I don't even go looking for the posted project, which is what they think they will get you to do, but I leave their blog immediately..is it just me?
...am I Pinterst blog Grinch? )

And Ranger is having their own gift wrapping contest!!

This will be my final gift box made for the Art MoB, so far, including this one, I sold all but 3, you can see the others I created here. I am always learning new things since I began selling and I thought that my boxes would be bought mainly by men, as they are notorious for not gift wrapping, but no, they have all been bought by females...who would've thunk that...not me anyway :)
