Paper Playtime - Anything Goes

How can you not think about winter after seeing the inspiration picture? All the leaves have deserted the trees and are swirling around in the wind over here in the mountains. We have gone from chilly weather to downright...bbbrrrrr! But I am sure we will have some warm days here and there, until then I am wishing for snow. I know, there is something seriously wrong with me!

I made a gift card holder:

The gift card sits in the sleigh, just glue down the sides and bottom of the sleigh body.

Embellished it a little :)

Ranger - stickles, liquid pearls

Although the mittens might look like they are hanging
 freely, they are actually attached.
And when you remove the gift card from inside the buggy you have a small hidden sentiment. Inside the card you have plenty of room to write in.

You know, put a pink glittery balloon on a gift bag and I'd be happy. Nope, it doesn't take a lot for me :) Of course, one that holds a gift card makes me a little happier and this one does slip out of the bag for ease of shopping! :)

I love this background paper, it's a flocked embossed texture that feels so good to run your fingers over.
Added lace to the inside of the bag to emulate tissue paper. I do recommend adding a bit of wax paper into the bag to keep the glue from adhering the bag together. The handle is created the same way from a piece of twine.

The balloon is sitting on a glue dot and I tried to shape the balloon over it to give it a more rounded look. I spread some stickles over the balloon and then outlined with the same color. Filled in with some glossy accents.

Trending words

Diaphanous: adjective
characterized by extreme delicacy of form
(yes, it also has other meanings, but this was the meaning for how it was used)

when: Lookups spiked on April 9, 2013

why: The pop star Shakira – a new judge on NBC's singing competition The Voice – praised an 18-year-old contestant by saying, "Your voice is so diaphanous at times."

Diaphanous is currently in the top 1% of lookups and is the 144th most popular word on Merriam-Webster.com.

I love the idea that media does increase our curosity and learning experience.

This week over at Frosted Design, we have a travel theme challenge for you. Remember you can enter a card, Lay Out or an off the page project as long as it has something to do with travel.

Play along with us and you have a chance to win:
A Travel Mini Album Kit by Artsy Albums

Please pop over and take a look at my fellow Monday inspiration ladies have come up with for this challenge. I like to think my card as traveling with versatility :)

DCWV - Shimmer Stack
Cricut - Everyday Paper Dolls, p. 71
Flashing Tape - hardware store
Helmar - Liquid Scrapdots

The Cricut has a slit cut for the door so I just went with that idea, and printed my sentiment on a banner and slid it through the opening. It's lifted up with Helmar's Liquid Scrapdots, outlined with American Crafts Slick Writer.

To me, this sentiment makes it a more versatile card, it could mean:
"Happy Travels, here's some spending money"...or
"Here son, some money to fix your car up with"....or
"Get well soon, here's a gift to make you feel better"....or
"Hard times happens, here's a little something to get you back on your feet"...
lots of ideas here!

So, do you have any travel plans for the summer?
Jamie and I are going to Florida for a week, and I cannot wait! It will be so much fun to have someone to bum around with!

convalesce: verb

to recover health and strength gradually after sickness or weakness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

something that moves on your card/project!

I love a little movement on a card, especially for children's card since they like to have interactive toys...errr....cards.
I used the Cricut cartridge, Doodlecharms to create the shapes. I cut the house apart so that the Gift Card can be slid into it.

Here is a close up shot of the Action Wobble:
( I did have to trim the wobble a bit to fit the shape of his head! )
And here you can see that the gift card holder is all on the front of the card. The card itself opens up so that you can write your greetings inside it.

I can't wait to see what you come up with for this challenge, I am always looking for new ways to create movement, I know some people make those slider cards, which look so darn cute! Or maybe a butterfly whose wings have movement? So many possibilities, I hope you hop over to the Try it on Tuesday blog to get inspired by what the DT has come up with and play along with us!

Some things are simpatico, aren't they? I was commissioned to do a rooster get well card and then Brenshevia showed this awesome tutorial on making sunbursts. I mean..roosters = sunrise...right? Or am I right? lol So after cutting my rooster out in the Cricut Craft Room, Animal Antics; I set about making my sunrise. Go HERE for the tutorial over at Frosted Designs :)

Sister Act card Challenge - #1 Anything Goes

I hand stitched along the sun and glued down the same floss along the creases of the sun rays. Now when you add a die cut on top of that texture you may have a tiny problem. If your die cut is glued flat, it will crease or bend if you pop dot up the die cut then you have issues with those tiny parts like the tail father and feet where the pop dots would show.....
you have Helmar's Liquid Scrapdots...to dah...problem fixed. So not only can you elevate your die cut to match the height of the thread but you protect all those tiny areas and it cannot be seen!! I truly do believe it's why my cards and signs sell so well, no visible pop dots!! And to think I use to pop dot everything...now it's all about the LSD, man! lol ( Drug pun not entirely intended )

Faber Castell - PITT pen

Oh, an another reason to love making sunbursts...great usage of those scraps of paper.
No 12x12 sheet was harmed in the making of this card! ♥

Inkspirational - Challenge #14 Color Inkspiration -  pink, banana, and slate
( Was not sure if slate was grey or blue, but it seems the DT projects used blue, at least that's what if looked like on my computer screen. I didn't have a slate blue ink so I used Broken China. )
Technique Time Tuesday - Water Stamping
( OK, so my stamping techniques really stink, hence why I try to learn new things. This one really bombed for me, lol Here is a picture of the rain boot after stamping with my Hero Arts background stamp following the steps...I just need to practice more. But I HAD to try it, I mean water stamping and a Rainy Day card just went hand in hand. )

Since you could not make out the flowers from the stamps; I glued some on where they were suppose to be and added a pink rhinestone to the center of each.
I altered the Prima rose by removing the rose core and added a matching rhinestone to it.
