scarab: noun

A representation of this beetle, such as a ceramic or stone sculpture or a cut gem, used in ancient Egypt as a talisman and a symbol of the soul

One of my favorite bracelets as a young girl. I just loved the different colors and to this day I love multi gemstone colors!

I didn't intend to start out making a design for my peephole, but I had so much fun making the scarab for another project that I couldn't toss him just because it didn't work and was walking around the apartment with him in my hand and just happened to look at the door...and I thought it looked perfect there.
They say eyes are the window to the soul...the scarab is a symbol of the soul....peepholes are for looking out with your eyes....doesn't it all fall together?

Cricut - Art Nouveau cartridge
After cutting out my image and assembling the layers, I added  small strip of gold ribbon for his head and added stickles to the wings. Then I heated up my TH pot ( which the Ranger UTEE powder had turned to a dark amber, perfect for the shell ) and poured it onto the body of the scarab. Be very careful and pour slowly, use a tool to move the hot liquid around to fit the shape. Once it dried I added stickles to the back.

I then had some cheap wired beads ( originally they were for wreath decorations, great buy after Christmas was over and I had them for years ). I first shaped the wired beads to the legs and then glued them on.

All done....cool, huh? Right now he is only temporarily hanging onto to the inside of the door, I am planning on painting the door and having a deadbolt put on so I'm not fixing him yet until those projects are completed.
But he sure does make my soul smile :)

Wow!! This is gorgeous. I'm really in love with this scarab. And I love how you used old Christmas decorations for the legs. That makes it a very fun project. And I like how the UTEE turned to amber. I've had that happen to me, too. This is a really nice project, although I'm not sure I understand where you find the time to make all these projects.

Hi Sandee, I am so glad that you found a place for your gorgeous creature, he is far to nice to not to be seen. Love his wings and fantastic idea to put him on the door - clever cookie!. A x

Really, really nice! I love that the scarab has its wings opened. Gives it a beauty you don't always see. And by the peep hole--perfect! ;)
