reflecting: verb

a thought occurring in consideration or meditation.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
WOYWW day!!
What to do when the power goes out? That was the question Monday, when the power went off right in the middle of creating on my Cricut Craft Room....humph! So I made the obligatory phone call to Duke Power, just to make sure they knew it was off ( like 3 thousand other people didn't call, lol ) then having done that I was momentarily stumped....what do people do without electricity? Seriously? ....and the discussion in my head began....then the thankful prayers to God that I am grateful I live in a developed nation that has such power and I have the money to pay for it....I can handle a couple of hours...but decided not to open the refrigerator just in case it was longer so nothing would spoil....wistfully eyed my blank screen lap top and trudged onwards....

Next I started reflecting on what I should do, emptied my trash baskets, paid my bills, watered my plants, thinking by now this isn't a short term outage, started missing my air conditioner quickly and tried to remind myself to stop turning on light switches every time I entered a room! lol So I opened up a couple of windows and then, I started cleaning my most neglected area...my craft table. Thankful, again, that it was located next to the 2 windows so I had plenty of light, if not somewhat dreary light, as it was a stormy rainy day. So here is a picture of my desk after it was all cleaned, just proving I can shut those drawers! AND look at all that space! Who knew it was there? lol
And then a picture taken today, it looks kinda staged, but I am preparing some Halloween items to be taken to the gallery. I am adding a shadow box so that I can set some things out that don't hang on the wall. Oh, and I had my first sale from the Art Mob Studio, sold a wall hanging, yay me! lol
I have decided it's worth every penny to rent a space versus doing craft shows. You only have to set it up once and then just replenish as you go along, much, much easier than packing it up, unloading and setting up, then re-packing it back up and taking it back home. That one craft show I did earlier in the the year completely exhausted me! AND, you don't have to worry about the weather!
 It's a win win situation!

So now we get to visit each other, you tell me what's going on in your life...I like that as much as looking at your desk, after all you are my friends....but could you slide over a bit so I can stretch out? All that cleaning was a bit tiring!

Hi Sandee - it certainly makes you think what you take for granted when something goes off around the house - I know what you mean ! Sometimes in out little place in Spain the water goes off for 24 hours & you realise how much you depend on it & what it must be like in countries where women & children have to walk miles to get a little poor quality water just to live ! Anyway it's an ill wind as they say & your tidy workdesk looks very smart & all ready to leap into action ! Have a fun week ! Ali H x #57

your space looks so wonderfully tidy and a huge congrats on the sale... it is a thrill isn't it... thanks for the reminder to start preparing our summer storm kit... very depleted after a squillion storms and outages last summer... xx

The power cut certainly did your desk a favour! It is such a shock to realise just how much we depend on it and makes us think how many things rely on it. I have a wind up torch and radio... wish they did wind up lap tops hey?!
Love Jo x
Thanks for popping in and sorry you didn't get picked out.... aaah!

Well done on making the sale! Hope you get many, many more....love the look of your tidy workspace this week, unlike mine (hangs head in shame) but it is only temporary and guess what - I found it! It was right in front of me staring me in the face........Happy WOYWW, Anne x #47

Too much neatness this week, as is sit in squalor. Grr. I know I have to clean but I also know it is going to be a WAY bigger job than I can handle in a single school day. And as my room is between the downstairs and the upstairs, I have to pick my time carefully.

A YAY on your sale! :)

Hi there Sandee, ah space on your desk and it took a power cut for you to get that - ah blackouts do have some distant, kind of, sort of a advantage dont they?? funny how dependent we are on that connection to our modern world! love your wee drawer system on the top of your desk.
Thanks so much for popping over and thanks for sharing ~ happy WOYWW! waving hi from he sandhills of Oz! :D Shaz in Oz. x #48

Sometime a power outage can be a good thing, for realising what you have and for cleaning up. Those little halloween things are really cute. A big congratulations on your sale, I hope you have many more. I do the same thing with The Collective Store, you rent a space and wait for it to sell, far better than sitting at the markets.
Have a great week.

Hi Sandee thanks for popping by and for your well wishes for Cal. I loved your reading your post Sandee. You are so right we do take things like the constant availability of heat and light for granted. I have to say you made great use of your time and your desk looks fab. I love all the halloween goodies. Good luck with the studio - here's to many more sales!! Happy WOYWW to you from Helen 22

I too (tho' not as often as I should), give thanks with a "there but for the grace of God..." But I am most grateful for where I live.
Your work space is fab; I did chuckle when you said, "Who knew it was there?" lol. I'm sure I'd find things I'd forgotten about if I tidied up to :)
CONGRATULATIONS on your first Studio sale! Go you! Onwards and off to the bank now....:-D
Have a great WOYWW :0)

Glad to hear you found something to do without electricity, awful isnt it, ours used to go off all the time, you just feel stumped as everything you want to do isnt possible and as you say keep forgetting and switching lights on.
Hope you are back to normal now,

Don't things just happen at the most inconvenient times. However, at least you got some time to tidy up and looking at your desk its been well worth the effort Sandee. I love it when I start afresh. Hugs from Scorland. Rita 123 xx

I did smile at your post. We have had a series of short power cuts this week. The trouble is we never know how long they will last so we sit waiting for the first 10 mins, and then start looking for something to do. Well done you, for having a fantastic tidy up while you waited. It is lovely to wok on a tidy desk now and then. Kate x #94

It is astounding how much we take our modern services for granted...and what a hole they leave in our lives when they're unavailable. But boy, did you make good use of your time - that is one amazingly tidy work space now. Well done!!!

Seems you got lots done without power! It doesn't go off often here but when it does it's usually at a horrible time, like mid-shower when you're all soaped up and have to wash hair out with cold water then can't dry it! Take care Zo xx 98

Congrats on your first sale and on renting the space versus doing craft shows! Smart! And good for you for turning no power into an opportunity to clean you craft space! That always feels good. There is no moss under your feet!!

Thanks for visiting me already! BTW, my crack about the author of the Fifty Shades of Gray was just sarcastic in-fun humor, not true. Taking one of those things off the back of a table-top frame is, for me, pure torture! (I haven't even read the books.)

Have a great week with no more outages! Darnell #93

I thought we were going to lose power late last night just after I got into bed, and I was so freaked out. AJ reminded me that I don't even use the electricity while I'm sleeping, but I still like having the option!

You were very productive during your power outage! I can't wait to see what Halloween goodies you create.

Adding a shadow box sounds like a great idea. Having an art gallery space sounds much easier to keep up with than the craft shows! Congratulations on your sale!

Rita said...

Aha! You put that time to really good use! and I didn't think the second photo looked staged, but then I am a neatnic crafter--LOL! Except you'd never see my glasses on the table or I'd be falling ass over teakettle over something--LOL!

I'm glad renting the space is working out well for you. I agree. Doing the craft fairs is a LOT of work!! A lot. This sounds a lot easier.

Happy Wednesday! :)

Let's see... when the power goes out-watch zombie movies on the portable DVD player? That's what hubby wanted to do only we don't have a portable DVD player. Nor did we have battery backups for the fish tanks (we do now). Nor did we have a giant cooler to buy ice to put the perishables in (we do now). That was from the time a storm took out three poles in our neighborhood and we had no power for 18 hours. Areas near us had to go an additional 6 hours.

Cleaning sounds like a good idea as getting caught up on mundane tasks. Have you ever wondered how much stuff we could get done if we didn't have technology to distract us? And I include TV in that.

Congrats on your first sale! I'm with you, craft fairs sound like too much work. Plus at a booth you can introduce things as you make them while you have to have it all at the ready for a fair. You have the best option I think!

it has been so hot the past couple days here in Oklahoma that I think I would have to leave rather then stay at home. It got up to 101 yesterday and today it is suppose to get up to 103! Gosh didn't someone tell Mr Weather it was fall now!! Love the desk all nice and neat but I like it with the drawers open too! Thanks for stopping by for a visit and leaving a nice comment. It is quite frustrating not to have power. We get that a lot over here. We have what they call 'load shedding' - that means that when electricity usage gets high, certain areas are just shut down to conserve energy. Would be OK if you knew when it was going to happen, but NOOOO! Not in Africa, here they like to surprise you.
At least your space got sorted. Congrats on your first sale.
Happy WOYWW!

Hello Sandee,

Yep, we are very lucky indeed! You did quite the clean up on your crafty space. Please don't go over and peak at mine.......yikes! ;-)

I've never done an outdoor craft fair - actually, the only one I do is in November and it's a very small amount for the booth. I do have to lug my tables so that can be hard but it's fun.

Happy WOYWW

Sandee,

Sounds like you utilised your time well, pity about the shortage of power but it happens. We have some really terrible winds here in Melbourne atm and power is going out everywhere with trees coming down on powerlines. Thankfully I am not affected.

Congrats on your first sale how awesome is that, you must be happy with yourself.

Bonus clean crafting space, but how long will it last? just teasing you girl.....

Your desk is definitely a busy place but SO organized. And I just had to say "HOORAY" for your sale. We love to hear that and it's good feedback about the rent/space vs shows. That's my feeling as well (not that I've ever done either one - just a comfort zone thing). Again, congrats!

No, sometimes I have to get my cleaned up before I can start new projects, other times I only clean it up because I can't figure out what else to do! Thanks for popping in to see me and leaving a comment already...you are much quicker than I am! Glad you got your electric back...and I know just what you mean. When you lose it its like "ugh", but then you realize how much you need it and that always makes me so grateful to have it and to live in a nation with service as reliable as ours is, and that we can afford it and have the access is just such a blessing. Hope you're doing well and planning a fabulous weekend! Well, go ahead and have a great night, too. ;)
