Do mermaids dream?

If they do dream, I wonder what they would dream about?
Random ocean dreams or would they dream about the things that exist above the water?

I did my mermaid and background all in Higgins Inks on Yupo paper. I haven't had much success working with Yupo paper before but I was pleasantly surprised at how well the inks stuck to it. I did this piece for my groups monthly challenge. This month Pam's theme is "Fantasy".

Because I painted the mermaid using the applicator tips to the bottle the painting is loose and it did bleed a little forming and extra tail to her, but I kinda like it, lol

I also dried dripping water, alcohol, and even pure acetone onto the paper hoping for a reaction but didn't get much. In the end I dripped the white ink and splattered a little bit.

wow...I am so far behind!! This was actually made for the Tim Holtz 2013 Tag for October and I just now am getting it posted!! YIKES! At this rate, I'll be celebrating Christmas on Valentines Day! lol

I enjoyed using my white pen and playing around with the lettering inside the tree branches, and I just love my drippy moon!

I combined the Tim Holtz- June 2013 tag

Ranger products:
Distress paints, distress stains, alcohol inks

You have many reasons to smile
We are all in this together
You are amazing just the way you are
Life isn't perfect, but it's pretty darn good

I just love the turquoise, lime and pink colors in this piece.
I just couldn't muddy it up with brown ink.

The backgrounds were created with my Gelli Plate. The small background piece was run through my embossing machine with the leaf stencil. It didn't show up as well as I hoped so I used some Distress stain to paint in the leaves a little so they would stand out better.

I accidentally discovered that if you apply sprays over the paint and then wipe off, they inks stick to the embossing paste beautifully. Really enjoyed that surprise. :)

The dragon fly is cut out of a shiny silver card stock so I used alcohol inks to cover the body first and then went back with the Twinkling H20's for some glimmer.

So, here I was playing with my gelli plate intending to make a mermaid print and I did too, but what I made here, was created from the stencils I was using to mask with. ( In other words instead of using the pieces that I had cut from the Cricut as a mask, the pieces themselves became part of the art. Each layer was cut from the Cricut, laid onto the Gelli plate and then lifted off after painting. Then each piece was layered on top of each other to make the wall hanging. Each piece was cut out of a trasparency sheet. )
This is my unintentional mermaid. :)
I say unintentional because I didn't plan on using the Cricut cuts as part of the design, I thought I would be throwing these cuts away.
For each transparency layer there is a coat of gel medium over it so I am assured that the paint won't flake off the plastic transparency. So that's a whole lot of layering, coating with medium and then adding another layer.
I just LOVE how bright and vibrant the colors came out and since I was using transparencies, any color below shows through the top layer. Each time I peeled up the mask piece I squealed! seriously There are numerous layers here and each one is delicious!
The color themselves are not neon, but laid against this black background and they just zoom off!
I used the turquoise stickles to outline the turquoise seaweed and left the others alone, I did add stickles to the starfishes.
My mermaid is outlined and a few drop of liquid pearls are added to her, and that's all the garnishment that she needed.

Try it on Tuesday-animals

My heart goes out to all the families in Oklahoma, please keep them in your thoughts and say a prayer for them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
'On the Wild Side' , to feature animals or birds.

The background to this piece began with Imagines Goosebumps spray and then followed with an assortment of Ranger sprays. The compass and quote were cut from a magazine and outlined with  a Faber Castell PITT pen. The entire piece was outlined with Higgins Super White ink and is hung with Really Reasonable Ribbon's hemp cording.
The pup was hand drawn on a magazine image and cut out, once adhered to the board, he was outlined with my Pebeo liner. His tongue and shadowing was created with Faber Castell gelatos and his eye was made with American Crafts Marvy Marker.

The tile words and letters were fitted on a straight pin with a small cork bead at the end and then glued down with Helmar's 450.

So, are YOU living like someone left the gate open?

sesquipedalian: adjective

having many syllables : long
 using long words

It's time for the Monday Inspiration girls over at Frosted Designs!
We would like to see your cards, layouts and off the page projects using only 3 colors.... black, white, and one other color of your choice!

I did another lay out!! Don't faint....lol
After checking, I see that my last one was made back in November so I had better get caught up!

Now what do you do when you don't really have anything to journal about? I used a poem from e.e.cummings and wrote fun facts about tulips around the edge of the LO. .
I also like that I got to use a small piece of ephemera, the top of the Biltmore ticket stub is used as my title. And my subliminal sub title which is God - everything - yes, because God is everything!

 entering this in:

Cut out the banner from the Cricut and adhered it to some twine.

Used a French knot to secure the large overlay to the base. .

Sprayed some mister on the overlay and let dry before placing the bling down. Because I sprayed onto a slick surface you really have to be careful and make sure it's completely dry. You can see where I added a little extra glue to the bling because it re-activated the spray, although in my book, that wasn't such a bad thing.

And attached the small journaling circle that I cut out with a stick pin which I outlined with a pen so it pop. I had to paint my date on top of the journaling sticker so that it would show up.

Colorbok - black felt butterfly
Maya Road - hat pin butterfly

hot air: noun

empty talk

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Interestingly, the history of hot air ballooning can be traced back to the 18th century - way before the Wright Brothers developed the first airplane.
The urge to fly like the birds prompted humans undertake several attempts to soar in the skies.

The Montgolfier brothers - Joseph-Michel Montgolfier and Jacques-Etienne Montgolfier, are given the credit of being the hot air balloon inventors - a feat they achieved in the second half of the 18th century."
I don't now about you, but I am fascinated with hot air balloons...don't get me wrong, I do not, in any way, want to be in one, I just like looking at them from the ground floating across the sky.

and why am I talking about hot air balloons, you ask?

I was really going back and forth on this challenge because there are SO many awesome things that have been invented over time, but in the end inspiration from this picture  I discovered on Pinterest won out. I was smitten from the moment I saw it!

So many elements were found recycled parts, the balloon ( or envelope ) itself came from packaging, covered it in tissue paper, outlined with my Pebeo to create the seams, colored with metallic melon gelato, and embellished with rhinestones and pearls.

The basket ( or gondola ) was created from a used tea light, that tin is so malleable, I just loved working with it. Covered it with tissue tape which was then washed with the same gelato color as the balloon. After I punched holes into the basket I sewed it with silk cording to attach it to the balloon. I used LSD to prop up the puffy heart that is riding in the basket.

I love the free hanging heart bead on the ground cable....which really shouldn't be attached theoretically beacause in the real world it would get caught on a tree or something...but then hey, there aren't giant puffy hearts flying balloons either... but I like how it looks :)

supercalifragilisticexpialidocious

This concerns the longest word in the dictionary:

OK, so you need to watch this short video, for several reasons, one being the ability of the assistant editor of Merriam-Webster to pronounce words like  "antidisestablishmentarianism" with ease that impressed me and to find out the criteria for picking words that go into the dictionary. I do think her job is somewhat sublime, although I still root for supercalifragilisticexpialidocious to be in their dictionary, and evidently so do lots of other people after reviewing their comments concerning the video.

Now what does supercalifragilisticexpialidocious actually mean?
We need to know this so we can use it more often, correct?
"We all know the origin of the word; a song from the 1964 Disney musical film Mary Poppins. The song was written by the Sherman Brothers, and sung by Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
The roots of the word have been defined as follows: super- "above", cali- "beauty", fragilistic- "delicate", expiali- "to atone", and docious- "educable", with the sum of these parts signifying roughly "Atoning for educability through delicate beauty
According to the film, it is defined as "something to say when you have nothing to say"."

and that is from Wikipedia :)
So supercalifragilisticexpialidocious that Merriam-Webster!!

April 2013 Creative Dare - FIVE WORDS

Think of 5 words that YOU think best describe you.
Now let's leave off snarky, lazy, fat, old..
let's think 5 POSITIVE words....
harder to do...huh?
I thought so anyway, I'd make a list, scratch off, add another...rethink...add...erase...
you get the idea.

There are more things I wanted to add..subliminally perhaps, like the paint brushes for being creative, or the books because I am a librocubicularist ( a person who reads in bed, lol )...

I also have a new toy, it's Pebeo Outliner....I free hand drew everything with it, so that's why it's all a little wonky..another subliminal me...messy, not patient...
I cut a slit into the pages of the bible through the board to slide in the book marker ribbon and stamped inspired on it, because God's word does just that. Not that I think I am inspiring, but that I couldn't leave God out of this and He inspires me daily in my art.

engagé: adjective

committed to or supportive of a cause

"Engagé" is the past participle of the French verb "engager," meaning "to engage." The French have used "engagé" since the 19th century to describe socially or politically active people. The term became particularly fashionable in the wake of World War II, when French writers, artists, and intellectuals felt it was increasingly important for them to take a stand on political or social issues and represent their attitudes in their art. By 1946, English speakers had adopted the word for their own politically relevant writing or art, and within a short time "engagé" was being used generally for any passionate commitment to a cause.

zarzuela: noun

a usually comic Spanish operetta

( honestly, I don't see being able to fit this into any conversations I hold, lol )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I got the words from Pinterest and unfortunately didn't google the author until after I had already finished my piece. I say unfortunately because there was so much more to this and I wish I had read the whole poem before I began.

I wanted to share it all with you. This poem was written some time ago. The simple statements contained in the poem can be applied to everyday life. It really applies to everyone in all walks of life. We can learn a lot from trees if we just take the time to look and listen.

 Advice from a Tree

by  Ilan Shamir

Sink your roots deeply into the Earth
Think long term
Go out on a limb
Remember your place among all living beings
Embrace with joy the changing seasons
For each yields its own abundance
The Energy and Birth of Spring
The Growth and Contentment of Summer
The Wisdom to let go of leaves in the Fall
The Rest and Quiet Renewal of Winter
Feel the wind and the sun
And delight in their presence
Look up at the moon that shines down upon you
And the mystery of the stars at night.
Seek nourishment from the good things in life
Simple pleasures Earth, fresh air, light
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Let your limbs sway and dance in the breezes
Be flexible Remember your roots
Enjoy the view!
