Artist Tribe Introductions

Image may contain: text

I thought long and hard about how to introduce myself today
but in the end I thought maybe if
I described my art journaling style then maybe that would convey who I am...maybe...lol

This is my latest art journal page that I made using
that I created for today and I am also linking this to

1. Occasionally I get in a sewing mood, I really love that it adds texture without bulk. One thing you will find in my art journaling: flat pages. The reason I don't like bulky pages is that it makes it harder for me to continue journaling. It's difficult to draw or paint on pages that are buckling or bulging. Anyway, that's my own pet peeve, but I do love looking at other journals that are loaded to the max.
Small beads and the occasional sequin are also often included.

And some more projects that I've created with my awesome, fabulous, wonderful

Khadi Papers 8x8 Sketchbook

2. Now I do enjoy hanging heavier/bulkier beads and charms on the outside of my journal books. I adore the tactile feel of them and the sounds that they make when I pick up my journals.

3. You will usually find quotes, poems etc. on my pages, I rarely create a page without adding some wordage. I also have a new toy, a typewriter and I enjoy hauling it out on occasion to type word strips, I also like to type on my journal fodder and collage with it. I did both on this 2 page spread.

3. I also enjoy water-coloring, stencils and outlining. I almost always outline everything, it just doesn't feel complete unless I do it.
I've tried not to, really I have ...but so far I can't rest the urge.

4. Sometimes I get in a mixed media mode and collage, splatter paint and gold leaf. I don't do a lot of this in my journal, usually, it's what I create on a canvas but sometimes I'm just in the mood to do it, so why fight it?

5. I also like to practice typography but I really have to concentrate while doing it and take my time. As you can see from the Om Shanti page what my writing looks like when I don't slow down...not so pretty! lol

6. I also am not a very patient artist. I think I have a mild case of ADD...
Case in point: Doing the dots was very boring to me while I was creating the page but afterward when it was completed, I loved it.
Sometimes I have a hate/love relationship with a technique I am using.

So maybe you learned a little about me through my journaling style.
to recap...
I like flat journal pages, like to add bulk to the outside of my journals, addicted to outlining everything, occasionally will get messy, love using words along with typography and I'm not very patient.

I am looking forward to visiting my art tribe sisters and seeing what they created!
I hope you do too!

Sandee!!!!!
Each and every piece on this page just blows me away! SO different, but at the same time, I can tell they are by you as there is something in each that says this is your style!
The fish page got me right from the beginning! What material did you use to sew those sea weeds? I just love it!
And the pages with your typing are simply beautiful!
Your dot piece blows my mind as there is NO way I could do that without moving on to another project halfway through! haahaa
Truly fabulous each page!
Love your artwork and your style!
hugs,Jackie xx

Sandee, I really enjoyed reading your reflections on your style. You are very self-aware. I'm not sure I have that kind of clarity, but I nodded along with you on things like preferring flat pages. It's not that I don't like the encrusted style, far from it, but you are so right about how difficult it is to work on the next pages. Fabulous pieces all! I want to know more about the seaweed too!

Sandee, there is a common thread woven among these pages but I can't put my finger on it, it is that subtle and the theme of each so different.

Love your journaling style.
I don't like pages that are so bulky
you can't have them in a book without
mashing them. I'm not real patient
when it comes to do some parts of
a project - but I'll keep working
on one, making changes until it is
what I want. I love the fish.
The stitching through the ribbon
is fantastic.
thanks for sharing a fantastic page.

It was a real pleasure to see your journal pages Sandee. They're full of creativity and delightful surprises. Others have commented on the fish page and I too loved it, especially the sewn weeds.
I enjoyed your wordage too and can also understand how you like to outline everything - I'm an outliner too ;D)... it seems its the final touch doesn't it.
Great work and beautifully presented. Cheers and Happy PPF! Sue

It so interesting to see different pieces of art from the same artist at the same time ! I absolutely love each one of them. Everything is really soft. Does the softness of the Kadi paper is responsible ?

Wow, what a lot to look at! I am wondering what you used in front of the fish to make them look like they are swimming, and did you hand stitch the piece? I soooo agree about not liking bulky pages too. My journals always get fat, but from collage, but I am trying to keep the layers flat--no easy task! beautiful work...can't wait to see more!

Jenn Jilks said...

I never even thought of that, the bulk of the pages.
Lovely work you do. Very pleasing to my eye.
Thanks for visiting my modest sketch!

I loved seeing your journal pages and how you did them. Thanks for the info on your gorgeous work. I agree about the bulkiness of adding stuff inside the journal. Unfortunately the teacher of the MM class I am in like bulky pages. You do beautiful work.
