February's Creative Dare:

Create a piece using your Life List/Bucket List/List of Dreams

 

If you are a somewhat regular follower of my blog you will know that one of my dreams has always been to have my art for sale in a gallery. This past September I achieved that goal and I am so happy that I made the leap of faith and did it.

 

I dedicate this piece to that dream.

 

During Tracy's Monday Night Video session she played around with a gelli plate making prints. Since I didn't have one; ( but love to paint along with Tracy ) I used a sheet of wax paper taped down and tried to emulate the gelli plate process as best I could. 
This is what I came up with.

Apple Barrel - white

American Traditional - stencil ( old, from a home improvement store )

Next I took my Distress Stain and painted in between the stencil, using water to blend it out. I also used a marker to go over the white stencil to bring it out.

Then I added my quote with stickers and rub-ons.

At this point ( when I am finished with most of my wet products ) I add a backing to my board, which is a piece of chipboard. I added detailing in the form of a white outline around the perimeter and then used the technique of dipping my Distress Marker into the spray ink and outlining the stencil and adhering a gem.

I love color, it's no lie, so when I saw the Helmar Monthly October Color challenge I was hooked. I also LOVED the picture of the flower that was the color inspiration too...double hooked! I actually didn't even want to alter the picture, if I had water droplets, I would have added those too!

Here is mine, I did a hanging canvas for my Art MoB studio. You can see all my wall hangings if you click on the tab at the top of my screen that says Wall Hangings for the Art MoB.

 

 

And if you want to see the progression of how I made it, here is a slide show. I really fought the background as you will see, in the end, it's black, just like the color inspiration. I just couldn't get that color combination out of my head. I told you I liked the picture! lol I used my Helmars Gemstone Adhesive for all the colored gems.

 I know I could go out and buy a new bathroom cabinet, but then I like to upcycle as many things as I can. Plus, I get to add my touch to them and that's the best part to me. So I took on my outdated, boring, bathroom cabinet....

and got some ideas from Pinterest ( of course, right? ) from: http://www.shoppersbase.com/14728/upgrade-your-bathroom-to-new-levels-with-the-new-trends-in-2012/ and from http://inspiredesignandcreate.com/

What intrigured me from the pins were the color inside the cabinets. You don't have to have plain boring white anymore...yay!! That got me to thinking, and this is what I came up with:

And yes, I removed the "normal" things in my cabinet and replaced them with some prettier stuff, I mean who wants a picture of aspirin bottles and vitimins for the picture? This paper came from DCWV Animal Stack. I love the plaid mix of green, pink and gold tones, and it looks so fresh! I adhered it to the back of the cabinet with Scor-Tape. I painted the inside of the cabinet with Patio Paint Fern Green. ( 3 coats, foam brush )

I also painted the swing door to the cabinet, papered it with DCWV Shimmer Stack paper, added a trim piece from the Animal Stack collection and finished it off with a pink satin ribbon and bow from Really Reasonable Ribbon. I also hand sewed a border around the paper, first securing the 2 12 x 12 sheets with masking tape, which is covered up by the middle trim piece. The entire piece was mounted with Scor-Tape.

So you can see, Pinterest can be a starting point, and idea...you don't have to do it exactly their way if you don't want to, it's up to you to decide. So let's see how a pin has inspired you, I can't wait to see what you come up with!
