Wanderlust

confession: I am a paper hoarder

Ok, maybe a little bit...more than a normal person but not quite to hoarding capacity!
I did do a little research on Inside the Hoarders Brain  and came to this mind blowing revelation:
you can almost replace the word hoarder with artist and it fits.
Mind. Blown.

I keep scraps of paper close by to my art desk, so I can grab a sheet of paper to brayer off excess paint, practice a stamp or stencil on and in general clean up messes with. I end up with some really pretty papers this way. I don't do much in the way of true collage work but I'll use these papers for backgrounds, and layering in my art journal like I did here.

Currently, I am watching my daily video in Creative Jumpstart 2018 and Gwen Lafleur is explaining this process as a "shortcut" to creating layers of depth for mixed media. I can even spy one of the Irresistible India Mini Woodblock Border Stamps that you can purchase from her store on the top of the blue paper.
I love these papers so much that I'll even keep tiny shards...
I just hate throwing them away!
Can anyone relate?

stencils:
Journal Notes 6 by Pam Carriker and Pen and Ink by Leslie Riley
other supplies:
DecoArt, Rubbermoon
So my question to you...do you consider yourself a hoarder of paper? maybe art supplies?
trinkets and doodads for assemblage work? Is your craft room out of control?

I think mine verges on it,
I mean it's crammed full of stuff that I hate to throw out because I may need it.
And on that note, I have been working on clearing out bags of stuff: taking it to the dumpster.
It's a work in progress to release my inner hoarder but I am really giving it an effort to try.
however...
I did get tickled about the comment in the article about shredding paper, cause my first thought was yes, I could shred, but can I take that home? Ya never know, it could make for some interesting art.
I know.
I need help.
Or do I?

Lol Sandee. Add me to the hoarder column. You never know what you’ll find in my stash. I’m basically a magpie. If it’s shiny I pick it up and put it in my pocket. I went to a flea market in a old drive in theater parking lot last summer and came home with a bag full of crushed and rusted bottle caps.... oh and of course you could do something with that shredded paper.

I think we all have the "hoarder" syndrome with art supplies. I hang on to just about anything that I may use someday. However, I am a clean and neat freak so everything has its place.

Wonderful artwork. Hoarding serves you well! My daughter tends to place any hard papers in my space knowing I may use them! I made a huge effort last year to get my supplies down by purging and using up lots of paint. Older and newer.Nothing was purchased for months and months...finally certain colours ran low so last weekend my kids replenished my stock. It's incredible what an artist can accumulate! Great post!

I love what you do with your scraps! Yes, I think that is what most collage artists are - hoarders. Sometimes seeing the tiniest bit of decorated paper will set off the artist in me. Thanks for sharing.

I can see where artistic people could lean toward being hoarders...or at least COLLECTORS! :-) I've seen it in myself and a lot of other artsy folks. Loved the post!

I think your art journal page made from bits of hoarded paper is wonderful! I do the same thing too. I keep any scrap of paper that isn't under 2" small, lol. It's a bit ridiculous but you never know when you will need that tiny corner of a page from Pride and Prejudice in your art. That's my reasoning anyway.

I keep lots of tiny scraps of paper in my little box of collage materials too - they always come in handy for something though! Happy PPF from Number 33 :D

haha, very recognizable :-) I am definitely a hoarder of art supplies. Just today I was clearing out my collage-papers because they were outgrowing the box I was stashing them in. I love your journalpage and especially the little quote "I think I'll be an artist or something" :-) Cute! And I'm sure you'll find lots of images in your excess-paint-papers!

I do collect lots and lots and lots of paper! :D
It's not good ;-), but I've had the idea of only using paper, making my own paper from
what I have collected… but that's a lot of work too and I don't have that much time.
I use my paper like you as painting background and for collages.

Enjoy your scraps!
Happy PPF

I have just recently acknowledged that I am indeed a hoarder. I love your journal page!

Yes - especially in mixed media ANYTHING could be used in your art. My space is small so that helps keep it all under control. That background on your page is just beautiful. Happy PPF!

I totally get it. :)

Yes, but not to the extent that I can't walk int my craft room. But this is my year to focus on minimizing what I have so I can be more creative. I think having too much supplies is inhibiting my creativity.
Liking the spread. I have seen the journal notes stencil but your spread it the first time I've seen it use. Wonderful note to yourself.

:) oh yes, I keep too much of everything which might need one day. Not that bad what I used to be...I do clean and have quite good order in the house so my life is not living only in one corner...Paper, note books, all art supplies, fabrics, threads, patterns...
Have a sunny day!

Sandee, your musings hit me right in the studio. I save lots of things other people wouldn't. And yes, artists are prone to this. I read a book some years ago titled Stuff: Compulsive Hoarding and the Meaning of Things. It scared me out of my wits. One reason is that about half of the hoarders profiled in the book were librarians! Like me! And now artists! Like me!

There is a trash bag next to me as I type. I am trying to fill it.

It's a struggle, that balance between keeping and letting go. Sometimes it wins and sometimes I do.
