Word Trend Watch

When: Lookups spiked on May 8, 2013.

Why: An unlikely way to learn Latin: people watching the Jodi Arias murder trial on TV looked up this phrase after seeing it on the Arizona state seal in the courtroom.

Ditat Deus is Latin for "God enriches."
Many U.S. states have Latin mottos on their official seals, also known as "great seals." A "great seal" is "a large seal that constitutes an emblem of sovereignty and is used especially for the authentication of important documents."

( On my blog header you will see the translation for North Carolina's motto in latin: " Esse quam videri"
Do you know yours? If not, you can look it up here.  If you live in Maryland....all I can say is Bless your heart...lol )

Everything came from my scrap bin to create this LO. Which suits me to a tee since it's a LO about hiking and somehow in my head, being outdoors and enjoying nature,  correlates to re-cycling....well, at least using up what I have in my stash!
No, Jamie wears flip flops when hiking!
When I don't have a lot of journaling to write, I use poems and quotes. I love hunting down something that fits the moment and essence of my LO. This one was perfect for me and Jamie, because we both love to read and be outdoors, and she is my best friend. :)
There is a lot of subtle dimension and lift to the page.
also entering this in:
Scrap it with a song - Soak up the Sun by Sheryl Crow
Inspired by the first line in the chorus "I'm gonna soak up the sun" as we had a lot of rain this year and it felt so good to go for a hike and feel the sun shining down on us.

Hi Sandee,

I must say I don't know the seal for New Mexico. Now not only do I need to look up my state but I must check out Maryland too!

Great scrapbook page! What a great page dedicated to your bestie! It cracks me up that she hikes in flip flops!!

Hugs,
Kay

Great layout...Love the hessian and the way you tied the yellow twine to the brads to create the look of sun rays.
