The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness

How did the pink ribbon come about?
How did the pink ribbon come about?
In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors. At the same time, Evelyn Lauder, who was the senior corporate vice president of Estee Lauder and Penny Alexandra who was an editor of the woman health magazine Self, came up with an idea to create a ribbon that the cosmetics giant Estee Lauder would distribute it in stores in New York City. Evelyn Lauder then promised to spread the ribbons in the entire country, but a color for the ribbon was not yet decided.
Meanwhile, Ms. Charlotte Hayley, who
was battling breast cancer had produced peach color ribbons. She sold them with
a card saying, “The National Cancer Institute's annual budget is 1.8 billion US
Dollars, and only 5 percent goes for cancer prevention.
Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon”. Her
message spread fast.
Here's another card for the Link Up To Pink Breast Cancer Blog. If you want to make cards, they are taking donations for 2 Breast Cancer Centers, which I think is pretty cool idea. I am fortunate to not have had any breast cancer scares nor any of my friends or family but my heart goes out to every woman that has. This is a great card and a great sentiment! I love that so many blogs are having link ups to bring awareness this cause!
I like your card, and enjoyed reading about the history behind the pink ribbon. I got a bit discouraged with the Susan G Komen Foundation when their practices came into question last year. I'm glad this is not the only corporation supporting breast cancer. Nice of you to make these cards.
Great card, love the sentiment!
