Just don't...

I've practiced Blind Drawing throughout my life, even as a child I would draw animals and flowers with my eyes closed, not trying to be blind but seeing if I could remember where I was spatially on the paper without looking. I used to put notebooks on top of my head and draw....I know, I was a weird child.
It's been utilized as an adult when trying to record dreams while still in the dream state under the covers of my warm bed by blindly writing down my recollections while I can still remember them.

So when I saw Carolyn Dube put out the challenge for Blind Painting, I thought I'd give it a go, but I did opt out of using paint and chose gelatos instead which made it a little less messy. I also chose only 2 stencils and 2 colors of gelatos and began on a brayered background of acrylic paint in my journal. I also had to let the gelatos dry so I got to open my eyes and see what it looked like and was very pleased. After it was dry I came back with my gel pens, closed my eyes again and drew a very wonky flower. Looks like something a toddler would draw and I just went with it and colored in the blocked areas with different colors.
Then as I sat looking at my little tiny flower the words "Don't take anything for granted in life" just came to me so I stamped them along the side.

Revamping

re·vamp
verb
gerund or present participle: revamping
rēˈvamp/
  1. give new and improved form, structure, or appearance to.

I am currently pulling out my old Halloween cards from last year and revamping them a little before making any new ones. Sometimes I see mistakes that I missed and maybe that's why they didn't sell? Maybe the people saw what I missed, in this case there was a little tiny glue shine around the edge of the moon, so I took out my gelato and PITT pen and made some intentional moon glow instead!

I also made some envelope art...using my awesome 5x7" Gel Press® plate and some distress paints. Seriously cannot get enough of this combination!

I love sprays, I really do but sometimes it's so darn hard to control the amount or the direction of the spray blast. In this case it was spray drips, 2 of them as you can see in the photo on the left....and maybe that's why it didn't sell....maybe it looks unintentionally messy which is never a good thing...sooooo...I made them into 2 tiny little jack-o'lanterns instead, PITT pen to the rescue again!

and..some envelope art to go with this one too! A little Jack doodle using my PITT pen and a little stamping and I have an adorable spooktackular envelope!

Now on to revamp some more cards!

Get Zen with Gel Press™ blog hop

Welcome to the Gel Press™ Blog Hop featuring Zentangle inspired projects by all of our great creative team. Hop through all of the posts then go back to the GP Blog and leave a comment. One person 18 or over will win a Petite Set! Go to the Gel Press™ Junkie page on Facebook and share your Gel Press™ creations! "LIKE" our product page for the latest news on All Things Gel Press™!

Each Gel Press™ print was created the same way, but with different color schemes and stencils. Each print began with a coat of acrylic paint first and then stencils with ColourArte Silks and Gelatos  were used. After all my prints were made I cut them up and used them in a collage.

The "earth" prints are all in warm colors and geometric shaped stencils.
I did not use the gold gelato or the top stencil but sometimes I don't use everything I get out to inspire me.

The "sky" prints are all in cool colors with time-related ( watches and clocks ) stencils.
I did not end up using the white paint and just used the ghost prints since they had white areas already.

I used the same tools for all the prints. The brayer was used to spread the acrylic paint out and the spatula was used to apply the Silks through the stencils.

Here is a side by side comparison of the prints before and after the Zen-doodling.

And some close up shots.

The tree was cut out on my Cricut ( Stretch Your Imagination, at 3½" ) from 5 different Gel Press™ prints and then reassembled onto the black mat board.

I love the way it turned out and I hope you give your prints a little doodle :)

Tangled Mountains

I admit I am not much for the art of Zen tangling, it just hurts my hand, I guess I grip my pen too tightly but it's uncomfortable to say the least. However I was asked to do it for our blog hop and if you want to join in and go through the designer's blogs you might win a Petite set of plates from Gel Press™. I am entering my mixed media piece in
ColourArte's Monthly challenge to use warm colors.

I did try out something new on my plate, ColourArte's Silks, and Gelatos...

Yummy prints!
