Winner announced in the WINNERS Page Tab

Do you ever have any trouble mixing pattern paper? I use to, didn't like it one bit actually, but in the last couple of years my thinking has been turned around and now I love it. Here, for my little altered box, I mixed 2 different lines of paper.

I have fallen in love with boxes, and evidently so have my customers at the Art MoB because this one has already sold! It is made out of the cardboard spool from Christmas ribbon. The bottom and top rounds were also cut from chipboard and attached.
Almost all my boxes come with velcro closures.
And I paint the insides to match.
I add LSD to keep the wings up and separated so that they won't flatten out, I mean we want the recipient to see all that pretty paper!

Warholian: adjective

From Andy Warhol (1928?-1987) American
Audacious, minimalist, unwatchable.
( one of my favorite artist when I was in High School...just in case you wanted to know )

Along with many of you, I agree that sympathy cards may be one of the most difficult cards to make. I think the reason is, it's because it's such a tender time in someone's life and you want the card to reflect the importance of the moment.

I used one of my Gelli prints for a background sheet, love the way the butterfly picks up on the colors of it. I also really like this sentiment for a sympathy card.

butterfly - K&Co.
script paper - My Minds Eye

I am also very remiss in announcing the winner from Scraptown Lady's giveaway which I was suppose to do yesterday. I know this isn't much of an excuse but I dropped my cable company and got Netflix instead and am now currently obsessed with watching TV on my laptop instead of doing my usual routine of blogging and such. My apologies!
So without further ado....the winner is:

Congratulations!

lord of misrule: noun

a master of Christmas revels in England especially in the 15th and 16th centuries

"Christmas before Victoria was a wild affair, in which the fun was presided over by the Lord of Misrule, and it was full of lewd and naughty pranks—usually strictly for the grown-ups."

( maybe this was their 50 Shades of Grey? ) lol

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ladies from WOYWW and lords of misrule...

Sometimes you amaze and wow me.
Sometimes you touch my heart in more ways than you might ever know.
Sometimes I realize how lucky I am to know you.

Christmas has become a lonely time for me and while I'll not bore you with the details to my pity party, there were a few of you that just made my day yesterday! So this is what is on my desk, courtesy of:

Dwain Gaudet
Julia Stratford-Wright
Sherry Ellison
and
Judy McCarthy

I have enjoyed looking over each item and am so impressed with your craftsmanship!

I saved all their packages as they came in the mail and opened them on Christmas morning so that I would have gifts to unwrap. Y'all are wonderful, thoughtful ladies who I am honored to have as a friend. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

assumption: noun

 taken for granted

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I know how to do the self exam by feeling the breast but I also was under the assumption that all we were suppose to be checking for is a lump, but I didn't know there was a visual check with other things to look for, so for anyone else that didn't know, here you go:

 In Front of a Mirror
Visually inspect your breasts with your arms at your sides. Next, raise your arms high overhead.
Look for any changes in the contour, any swelling, or dimpling of the skin, or changes in the nipples. Next, rest your palms on your hips and press firmly to flex your chest muscles. Left and right breasts will not exactly match—few women's breasts do, so look for:
  • change in breast size or shape
  • dimpling or puckering of the skin
  • redness, swelling, or warmth that does not go away
  • a pain in one area that does not vary with a woman's monthly cycle
  • a nipple that pulls in
  • discharge from the nipple that begins suddenly and appears only in one breast
  • one nipple that has an itchy, sore, or scaling area
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

My final card for the Breast Cancer Awareness series. I will be curious to see if they sell in the store. This is a simple card, with miscellaneous paper, sticker letters and a ribbon. The gem is the same ones I used for the entire set, My Minds Eye. I colored in the letters with my Ranger's Distress Marker and the heart was filled in with stickles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Currently, I am puppy sitting Max ( my brother's dog) and having a blast. I have really missed having a pet so I am enjoying myself immensely! Max, a Shih Tzu is 6 months old and loves to kiss....puppy loving is the best! lol

The origins of the Shih Tzu are unclear, but the prevailing thought is that the dog is a cross between Tibetan mountain dogs and the Lhasa Apso, probably occurring in the 1600s. The name translates to "lion dog," an indication of the high regard the Chinese had for that feline. The Shih Tzu held a high place among royalty in China, so much so that the breed stayed within that nation until about the 1930s. The popularity of the Shih Tzu took off when some made their way to England, with the Shih Tzu catching on in the United States in the late 1960s

alopecia: noun

Loss of hair; baldness.

Hair loss occurs because chemotherapy can sometimes damage healthy cells. It is so common because hair follicle cells multiply very quickly like cancer cells and chemotherapy drugs have difficulty in discerning the difference.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't know how it would feel to lose all my hair to chemo: a condition called alopecia. I'm guessing it's a little embarrassing, and self deflating. I don't know if I have a "pretty" shaped head or if it's full of dents and dings. I'm lucky that I have never had to find out, but this card is dedicated to all the women that have had to, or going through this stage.

pink ribbon: noun

The pink ribbon is an international symbol of breast cancer awareness
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

How did the pink ribbon come about?

In 1991, the Susan G. Komen Foundation handed out pink ribbons to participants in its New York City race for breast cancer survivors. At the same time, Evelyn Lauder, who was the senior corporate vice president of Estee Lauder and Penny Alexandra who was an editor of the woman health magazine Self, came up with an idea to create a ribbon that the cosmetics giant Estee Lauder would distribute it in stores in New York City. Evelyn Lauder then promised to spread the ribbons in the entire country, but a color for the ribbon was not yet decided.

Meanwhile, Ms. Charlotte Hayley, who was battling breast cancer had produced peach color ribbons. She sold them with a card saying, “The National Cancer Institute's annual budget is 1.8 billion US Dollars, and only 5 percent goes for cancer prevention. Help us wake up our legislators and America by wearing this ribbon”. Her message spread fast.
This made Penny and Evelyn Lauder very interested in Hayley’s concept. They saw the initiative and reason to adapt to Hayley’s idea by working with her.
The new color of the ribbon was pink and became an international symbol for breast cancer awareness
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's another card for the Link Up To Pink Breast Cancer Blog. If you want to make cards, they are taking donations for 2 Breast Cancer Centers, which I think is pretty cool idea. I am fortunate to not have had any breast cancer scares nor any of my friends or family but my heart goes out to every woman that has. Also entering this in Pin and Tack - Challenge #2 Anything Goes, Spark Your Creativity Now!
It's a simple card, but with a big message!

cupcake: noun

small iced cake: a small individual iced cake, baked in a paper or foil cup or in a cup-shaped mold

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hi everyone, I am so excited that I get to share my news today! Bonnie, from Really Reasonable Ribbon has asked me to be their month long Guest Designer!! Yay, for the entire month of July I am going to devote myself to using ribbon from the Really Reasonable store! That's 31 days of ribbon!!

We are starting off this month with an awesome
RRR Challenge #51 Children's Birthday with Ribbon Theme,
and I made a cupcake holder! I love cupcakes!!

I just love this 1.5" width Cupcake Grosgrain Pastel ribbon! It was the perfect width for my project.
Cupcake Grosgrain Pastel
I took an empty ribbon spool, removed one end and cut the other end to be flush with the roll, ( sanded any rough edges ) and then inked all the edges. Then I adhered the ribbon to the spool, perfect fit! My next part is a favorite of mine, which is embellishing the ribbon! I added stickles to the small dots and gemstones to the cupcakes! It is a sparkly pastel perfection!

Ranger - stickles: Waterfall, Fruit Punch, and Firefly
gems: My Minds Eye and Creative Imagination
ink: Brilliance, Pearlescene Sky Blue
I added more ribbon to the inside of the cup, to give it a pretty look even when the cupcake has been removed and eaten! I also added a matching circle cut from my Cricut using the Happy Hauntings cartridge. ( It just happens to have a circle on the cartridge, lol ) I used the Cricut Craftroom to get the exact size cut I needed to fit into the bottom of the cup. ( Cricut Craftroom is FREE )

bottom size: 2.85"
inside bottom of cup: 2.75"
paper: DCWV Shimmer Stack
To make it even more special I added a small pedestal for the cupcake by taking a glass fruit cup dish and turning it upside down and then setting the cupcake on top.
I added a cupcake wrapper, wrapped it with Saran Wrap ( that way the holder doesn't get icing on it and can be reused ) and cinched the top with a twist tie. Then using the Bow Easy Tool I finished the top off with a perfectly, easy bow which I glued on with my hot glue gun!

ribbon: Really Reasonable Ribbon July Club Assortment
And to complete the birthday presentation I tied a ribbon to the the base and hot glued a flower to it.

flower: Maya Road
And voila, you have a wonderful, cute, especially made Birthday Cupcake presentation!

I have trully enjoyed being in the Really Reasonable Monthly Club. At the begining of each month you get a packet of ribbon designed for whatever holiday or season that will be coming up in the next month. Which means you are always ready to start any project well in advance! I LOVE that.

This is what the July Club Assortment looks like:
Monthly Ribbon Club, Domestic

Beautiful, isn't it? Just perfect for summer projects, cards and lay outs!
And who doesn't like getting something in the mail each month?
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Don't forget, Project Pinterest for the month of July will post on July 9th!
