I wooden do this without Deco Arts

Some things are just kismet, you happen along, and there you are. Or in this case, there it was. A chunk of wood sitting right beside my bear in the middle of downtown. Imagine it sitting just to the right of him.

I walked over to it trying to figure out where it could have come from, after all this is inside a shopping area no less....but then figured it must have been put there for me to paint. At least that is my story and I'm st..st...sticking to it!

I wanted to try out the Americana Decor chalky finish paint to see how it did over a rough, untreated surface and it covered like a charm. The intent of my experiment was to see how the multi surface paints would do over it, and I have to say, they did exceptionally well! I also used an old stamp set ( from 1983 ) to stamp the scene over the surface. I did have to fill in a lot of areas since the surface wasn't smooth enough to stamp on, maybe you can't tell? ( hopefully )

Alice has a cup of tea

I love dimension, and I tend towards subtle textures...like beading or embossing. In this 12x36" canvas I used a lot of suggestive textures where you almost have to climb into the piece to really appreciate. I like that too....:)
Ready to climb in with me?

Let's start at the top and slide our way down the canvas, shall we?

The first to stand out are the poppy flowers which are created from 5 different materials. I don't even know what to call a couple of them, kind of a soft mesh I guess, but there is tissue paper, mulberry paper and fabric in the mix, all sewn together and beads added in the center.

I scrunched and folded one poppy giving it the most bulk of all on the piece.

The next thing that might draw your eye would be the background. I used molding paste through TCW art words stencil, painted a coat of Deco Arts American Baby Pink over it and then a coat of Americana Weathered Wood followed by a mixture of Americana Warm White and Apple Green. I like the bits of pink peeking through the cracks.

Then you have the understated raised edge of the Sakura Glaze pen.

Next feast your senses on the acrylic skins used in the creation of the coffee cup, which is outlined with Deco Arts 3D Opaque Gloss Enamel Writer and tiny glass beads are filled in with Rangers Glossy Accents. Stay a moment here and enjoy all the textures, it's worth savoring.

And last but not least by any means for I love my Helmar's Liquid Scrap Dots is a tiny tag raised on a tilt, which just might explain all my craziness....lol

Reflection is a good thing

I have to say that reflection is a good thing, whether it's careful consideration of a good story, mindful or long consideration about a decision you made or will be making, or simply reflection of light off an object. There is a lot of joy in this piece for it radiates beauty in my eyes. It's the first time I've done a silhouette like this with the moonlight highlighting her body and I really enjoyed making her. The moons rays were done with my Inkadinkado Modern Flower flourish stamp and heat embossed and the effect worked very well I think. I do have a video of me making this art journal page, if you are interested in watching it.

bless you!

Do you have a large collection of "stuff" from your childhood that means a lot to you but you don't have out on display because maybe it looks a little worse for wear? A few dings etc. I'd love to sell them but let's face it, I'm not going to make much money for the effort, it's not valuable "stuff"..just plain old happy memories stuff, that honestly nobody is going to want when I die stuff.

So I figured, why not alter some things so that they look like new again so that I can at least enjoy having it out on display once more. This little filigree tissue holder use to make me feel so grownup when I was little, and I must have cherished it because I kept it....some 45 .....cough.....years later. Anyhoo, if you want to see how I made it, or just want to go over and leave me some love, please visit the Helmar blog where my post is today. Thank you!!

Caffeinate Me

I love my Dylusion inks and the background was created by wiping them on with a paintbrush and using water to draw the strands of hair. Her face and coffee cup are painted on with Deco Arts Multi Surface paints and outlined with their dimensional writer.

I added some very old little plastic letters using my Helmar's 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I really love how it dries crystal clear.

I loved adding flowers and charms into her hair.

And I hand sewed hundreds of teeny tiny glass seed beads.

I used my Signo white pen to draw through the stencil on her coffee cup and then used some of Ranger's Glossy Accents to highlight some of the design from the Doily stencil.

Oh deer!

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.”
― Marcel Proust

I have had a few more deer than the previous years which is fine with me. I know there are people out there who complain about the deer eating their flowers but my feeling is, why fight it? You have moved into their area ( near the woods in my case ) and they have as much right to forage for food.

Like a lot of people I try to plant things that the deer don't like, but if they are hungry enough, they will eat them anyway! So I have a different philosophy than most I bet. Even though I love my flowers, I love the deer even more. I love when they visit my yard, they are such beautiful, majestic creatures...so if they like my Hostas and snack on them, so be it. I could do without a few flowers but I cannot do without my deer.

If you want to know how I made this stamp frame large enough to fit around the deer that I painted then please visit me over on the {my sweet earth} blog, and yeah...leave me a comment. Your love is appreciated!!!!!!!!!
