Distress stains - barn door, broken china
Distress stains - barn door, vintage photo
( I did purchase the brushed pewter stain, but discovered too late that it does not show up on top of the darker red, but it does add a nice shimmer )
Ideology - grunge paper, tissue tape, word bands
Distress Crackle Paint

OK, so totally veered off course on this one, but I had fun :) and that's what matters!
I am hoping that what matters is trying a new technique and checking out a new product, if that is the case, then I have been successful, even if my wall hanging does not resemble his tag.
( It's also pouring down rain, so the picture is affected, will take another one to replace this as soon as I get a little sunshine, I'm just trying to make the deadline as I am squeaking in here.)

I did try the red, white and blue streaked background with the brayer, but did not like how mine turned out so I used a stencil and modeling paste to create a layer, then covered it with distress stain hoping to soften the red and blue. Didn't like that either so I uses a layer of tissue paper over it.

I did manage to keep 2 elements in the piece, the open cut chipboard at the top and a border element on the bottom. It was the first time I have ever inked over the crackling, so I did manage to learn something new, and that's what is important, right? ( nod head yes please )

Hi everyone and thanks for joining us today for the Frosted Design's blog hop. If you're hopping in order than you just came from Debbie's blog  http://lovelifeslittlepleasures.blogspot.com/!

1. You need to hop to every blog on the list.
2. Leave a comment on the Frosted Design's blog telling us that you completed the hop.
3. Complete a Quote project and link it up to the inlinkz on their post!  Your project must contain all or part of this quote:
"It is the sweet, simple things of life which are the real ones after all."  Author:  Laura Ingalls Wilder

For my project using the quote, I took some Gelli print paper and covered a switch plate. First I ran the paper through the printer for the quote and then placed it over the plate to adhere it down. The flowers are also from my Gelli print paper and cut using the Cricut machine. The last touches were adding the vintage button and doodling around the edges.

If you get lost on the way here is the order of the blog hop:

Words or Whatever (please like their Facebook page)

The hop begins at 12:01 am, Central Standard Time on July 26, 2013 and will end at 11:59 pm, Central Standard Time on July 31, 2013. Winner of the Frosted Design Blog Hop will be announced on their blog, August 1st.

Try it on Tuesday - Collage with a twist: must include some script

I love collaging, there is just something fun about getting all gluey and messy!

I wrote a post called "Box Artist" the other day because I am always humbled and amazed when someone buys them. I never thought of myself as a box "designer" but I now received my first commissioned box so I'm extremely thrilled.

Like most of my boxes, they have tops that are held together by Velcro. I love using the MS doilies because they are actually quite sturdy.

The ribbon on this one is adhered onto the bottom of the box to keep it from slipping. I also didn't have to do anything to the inside of the box except paint it as she is wrapping the gift in tissue paper to put inside it.

Here is an up-close of the collage, I tore book test and a scrapbook paper into sections and glued them on, next a layer of printable butterflies
followed by a layer of tissue paper to soften the effect.

Electric Paperie - eTeam picks challenge

Use Papers from your Kitchen in a Collage

hmmm? I knew I had napkins I could use for this challenge because I collect and hoard napkins like I do pretty scrapbook paper, lol
So I chose this one, because it had a retro funky feel to it.

I didn't intend for this to be so Autumn looking...but the turkey along with the color combination really brings that out. Maybe because I had Shaz's color challenge on my mind is the reason I took out this napkin to use but I did try and make it not so Thanksgiving looking by adding one of my favorite sentiments:
I dream of a better world where a chicken can cross the road
without his motives being questioned.

I used some Gelli print paper for the word strips, ( love the color layers ) and painted the background out first with acrylic paint and then added a layer of twinkling H2o's over it.

I used a pearl pen for the outlining and doodling of the edges, I love that you can get different effects from this particular pen. If I lay down the dots and then gently tap my board on my table top, the drops flatten out ( inside the turkey's body ) but if I leave them alone they hardened to a nice raised edged ( the outlines and drops ).

Paper Smooches -  July 22-28 Picture Perfect challenge

I was very drawn to the colors and to the sun, so I spritzed my background with 2 shades of ink to simulate the sun, and since it was a beach picture I was inspired to use the cute little whale. The front of the card was run through the computer to print out the sentiment.

After stamping, coloring and cutting him out I sliced my paper and slid him into the water, I could have masked it but I preferred the paper piecing route. I really like a little dimension on my cards.

2nd Sponsor:

Winner announced in the WINNERS Page Tab

Do you ever have any trouble mixing pattern paper? I use to, didn't like it one bit actually, but in the last couple of years my thinking has been turned around and now I love it. Here, for my little altered box, I mixed 2 different lines of paper.

I have fallen in love with boxes, and evidently so have my customers at the Art MoB because this one has already sold! It is made out of the cardboard spool from Christmas ribbon. The bottom and top rounds were also cut from chipboard and attached.
Almost all my boxes come with velcro closures.
And I paint the insides to match.
I add LSD to keep the wings up and separated so that they won't flatten out, I mean we want the recipient to see all that pretty paper!

July 2013 Creative Dare - Mixed Media Monday's Mean to Me...

We were to pick one of Tracy's Monday night videos that moved us, and for me, this was easy. On any given Monday ( when Tracy isn't busy cavorting around in Las Vegas ) you can find me painting along with her via video. I have come to truly enjoy these moments and although I love chatting with everyone ( which I do nowadays before Tracy begins ) I love the camaraderie of painting along with another artist. This is the video that I first began painting with her, although it was a card I painted the first time; and I wish I still had a picture of it to show you, but it's in the archives and I'm too lazy to pull it out and search for it.

I found this on her blog :
and Sandee Setliff who created right along with us "I had a lot of fun painting along with you Tracy, that was a first for me and it was a blast. Only bad thing is I can't "chat", paint and watch all at once! lol" ~Sandee:
TWB_7482a
It did spawn many a piece of mixed media canvases, and every time I do a 'half heart' painting I always think of Tracy. Below is the first canvas that I painted with her, ( it was also my second mixed media canvas that sold in the Art MoB ) and although I was very stressed trying to follow Tracy as she painted, I have figured out that it's not the painting exactly what she paints that I find so inspiring, it's her cheerful words, her happy attitude and her being her that inspires me to have fun while I paint.

She talks about being not a "heart" person, yet it's her hearts that I relate as one of her signature styles ( that and buttons, coloring the inside of letter spaces white, charcoal outlining and flowers ), so much so, I incorporated a charcoal-ed heart onto the canvas that Santa was painting for the Christmas card group exchange last year.

So, yes, every Monday night, I am there but you may not see me in the chat room, because I am talking to Tracy, painting alongside her and having the best time. Here is my piece that I worked on 2 weeks ago with Tracy for the July Dare. It began a long time ago, but it was finished up with her that Monday night. Thanks Tracy for all the fun, may it continue for a long time to come!

I really love the background to this one. It begin as a runoff piece for my gelli making prints, every time I needed to empty the brayer I would use this to do so, it was a mix up of colors. The only thing I needed to add after I finished the heart was some drops of colors, followed up with the eclectic sticker lettering, unlike Tracy, I very rarely use my own handwriting.

And along the way, I even learned how to spell Weinzapfel :) and the importance of May 4th!

Along with many of you, I agree that sympathy cards may be one of the most difficult cards to make. I think the reason is, it's because it's such a tender time in someone's life and you want the card to reflect the importance of the moment.

I used one of my Gelli prints for a background sheet, love the way the butterfly picks up on the colors of it. I also really like this sentiment for a sympathy card.

I am also very remiss in announcing the winner from Scraptown Lady's giveaway which I was suppose to do yesterday. I know this isn't much of an excuse but I dropped my cable company and got Netflix instead and am now currently obsessed with watching TV on my laptop instead of doing my usual routine of blogging and such. My apologies!
So without further ado....the winner is:

After sketching the shell out on a piece of watercolor paper, I applied some Molding paste to help contour the bumps and ridges from the shell. I cannot tell you how many layers of color are on this because I had real issues with trying to get it 'just right' as baby bear would say.

I used the sea shell that I collected from my beach vacation last year as my inspiration from my card. You can also see the same shell on my sidewalk chalk drawing that I did for the
17th Annual Chalk it Up! contest in Hendersonville, NC.
